San José-based nonprofit Our City Forest seeks to hire a senior-level management professional for its new leadership position of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will oversee the effective delivery of programs and services throughout Santa Clara County, including oversight of staff in charge of field operations, community engagement, and business affairs. This is an ideal position for an experienced and versatile professional with solid background in managing programs, contracts and budgets in a nonprofit, government or environmental services arena.
The mission of Our City Forest (OCF) is to create a sustainable and healthy region by increasing community capacity to properly grow, maintain and protect our urban forest. Programs and services focus on planting and stewardship, community education, training, and recruitment and support of volunteers from all walks of life. In addition to a strong affinity for this community-based mission, the ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a background such as environmental services, nonprofit management, public administration, urban forestry, environmental justice, or community development.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the effective and responsive delivery of urban forestry services
- Develop and oversee implementation of work plans and budgets
- Manage, support and guide program staff
- Pursue and develop fee-for-service planting opportunities
- Monitor contracts and agreements to achieve deliverables
- Conduct regular meetings with project partners and sponsors
- Manage grant and project reporting tasks
- Evaluate and improve operation procedures
- Authorize and track project expenditures
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Introduce corrective strategies if needed
- Observe and assess projects in the field for quality control
- Approve and oversee financial and business transactions
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the President & CEO
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years experience in program management/operations
- Minimum of 4 years staff management experience
- Experience with preparing and tracking program budgets
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and standards
- Proficiency in MS Office, database software and data analysis
- Outstanding communication and public speaking skill
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Environmental advocacy experience desired
- Horticultural, urban forestry or other environmental science experience ideal
- BSc/BA or MSc/MA in Public Administration, Urban Forest Management, Environmental Services, Business Administration, or related field
