The Wright Ingraham Institute (WII) focuses on research and education that concerns interrelationships between natural and human-built systems. Over the past six years, the WII organized place-based educational programs and coordinated with other non-profit institutions to develop workshops, conferences, and public forums.  The WII has participated in resource management by holding conservation easements and has provided small annual grants to 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations that share our common goals and concerns.

The Executive Director position is a new position and serves as the key management leader of this nonprofit environmental and educational institution. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. 

The position is responsible for meeting strategic goals and is held accountable by the Executive Committee of the Board of DIrectors. Regular communication is essential.


Board Governance

  • Works with the Board of Directors and President in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.
  • Supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Communicates effectively with the Board and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Financial Performance and Viability

  • Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
  • Works with the Board of DIrectors to ensure financial stability and implements plan for financial sustainability.  This includes writing and managing an annual budget and monthly and quarterly  financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support the mission.

Mission and Strategy

  • Works with board and staff to participate in strategic planning and community outreach.
  • Responsible for implementation of programs and projects
  • Responsible for accounting for Institute resources and reporting on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Is active and visible in the community to represent the organization and establish relationships in the interest of the mission
  • Is accountable for serving as primary representative of the organization’s mission and strategy


Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

  •  Responsible effective administration of operations; maintaining databases for college/university network, donors/funders, etc. 
  • With approval from the Board, responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff, contractors and professional service vendors. This may include graphic designers, web managers, legal counsel, accountants, etc.
  •  Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
  • Works with the Board of Directors to identify, develop and invite global representatives to serve as Board of Advisors (BOA).  The BOA will advise and help direct programming or other areas.


  •  A bachelor’s degree from a college or university
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, board, volunteers and donors
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Great sense of humor
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills
  • Interest in and appreciation for the mission of this organization
