Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist – YELLS 21st Century Community Learning Center
YELLS (Youth Empowerment through Learning, Leading, and Serving, Inc.) is an innovative, place-based non-profit that empowers youth to rise as servant-leaders who uplift their community. Through our Afterschool Program (K-5th grade) and Community Action Café Teen Program, YELLS serves as a community hub and center for servant-leadership in our students’ own Franklin Gateway neighborhood. Our programs engage the whole child, whole family, and whole community to empower youth with the skills, resources, and character they need to serve as effective leaders and members of their community. With this holistic approach, we work to engage the whole community to achieve shared success and uplift their neighborhood.
The role of the YELLS Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist is to ensure the youth and families of the Franklin Gateway community have the education and skills to thrive personally and invest in their community. The Bilingual Family Engagement Specialist will accomplish this by building strong relationships and supporting parents in connecting to YELLS programming that helps them develop their own skills and support their child’s success.
Essential Duties and Functions
- Build strong relationships to nurture individuals’ connection to the “YELLS Family”
- Strengthen outreach to families on Franklin Gateway
- Increase youth and family enrollment and engagement in YELLS programs and activities
- Implement creative promotional strategies to reach new audiences within the Franklin Gateway community
- Build relationships with Franklin Gateway apartment complexes and businesses to facilitate outreach and connections with community members
- Develop and train a YELLS Parent Leadership Team
- Manage parent engagement requirements
- Act as a bridge between school, YELLS, and home, ensuring parents have the tools to help their child
- Lead workshops that facilitate a multi-generational approach by redelivering student content for parents, preparing them to reinforce their child’s learning at home
- Provide case management to understand family needs and connect families with resources and opportunities offered at YELLS
- Build and coordinate partnerships to offer trainings and resources that equip parents to excel personally and professionally
- Represent YELLS at all Franklin Gateway events to recruit and build relationships
- Support effective communication with Spanish-speaking families
- Provide Spanish translation and interpretation support for individual and group meetings with families
- Promote an environment that welcomes and empowers all community members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Education, or related field, or 3+ years’ relevant experience
- Enthusiastic, dynamic personality that inspires and motivates community members
- Powerful coaching and case management skills
- Desire to give to and grow with a community
- Strong community outreach skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Bilingual – fluent in both English and Spanish
Hours: Part-time, 20 hours/week (3:00 – 7:00 pm Monday-Friday are core hours, with flexible availability for special events and projects) for 43 weeks/year
Compensation: $20/hour Location: Marietta, GA 30067
