COMPANY OVERVIEW: Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb, a 501(c)3 non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center, opened its doors in 2006 with a mission “to spread the love of Christ by providing quality healthcare to those in need.” The Center was co-founded by Reverend Grant Cole, pastor of Connection Point Church and Dr. Jack Kennedy, Director of Cobb & Douglas Public Health after recognizing that medical bills and unexpected dental emergencies were the root cause of financial hardship, family instability, and diminishing quality of life in the community.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Fundraising, grant writing, marketing, communication to donors.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: N/A

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the CFO

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Can fulfill the clinic’s mission to spread the love of Christ through quality healthcare to those in need while performing their job functions
  • Maintains an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship to all donors and new prospects.
  • Oversees process for tracking major and planned giving prospects and cultivation strategies using a database
  • Manages private grant process to include: research, identification, writing, submission, follow-up, and reporting.
  • Assists with government grants: writing and reporting.
  • Pursues training and keeps current with in philanthropy, laws, and giving techniques important to the success of the development program.
  • Reports progress, developments, and status of fundraising to CFO weekly and to the board periodically.
  • Maintains a current understanding of the work of the Center and develops major gifts and/or capital campaign strategy.
  • Maintains contacts with institutions investing assets contributed to the Center and monitors/reports investment performance.
  • Develops and implements public relations and marketing campaigns, including website and social media.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of fundraising events.
  • Plans, develops, recommends, implements, and maintains the quarterly newsletter, annual report, and special mailings to our donor population.
  • Confidence and poise to initiate contact and establish relationships with community organizations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, community groups, and medical agencies.
  • Resourcefulness to resolve problems independently, identifying a variety of possible solutions and utilizing all available resources.
  • Ensures dissemination of information on fundraising, public relations, and events to all staff for volunteer schedules and patient schedules.
  • Positive communication, supervision, and support skills with fellow employees and volunteers.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and challenge in a manner that produces positive results.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

EDUCATION: 4 year college degree.

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years professional nonprofit fundraising experience.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others in a way that supports the Center’s mission to share the love of Christ through quality healthcare to those in need.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, rapidly growing organization.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Development database (E-tapestry or Raiser’s Edge preferred)
  • Current laws, giving techniques, and developments in philanthropy
  • Federal grant process

PREFERRED:

  • Strong database and statistical skills using Excel and/or Access, as well as electronic medical records to provide feedback in order for staff to manage and maintain grant outcomes

ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS: Office setting, well-ventilated and well lighted. OSHA Category 3 – Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues are not a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity. Vision must be corrected to 20 / 20 and hearing must be in normal range. Must be able to view computer screens for long periods. Occasional stress related to workload and customers with problems.
  • Hearing / Speaking: Effective communication with patients, staff and visitors. Spanish language skills a plus.
  • Standing: 15% of the workday
  • Sitting: 40% of the workday
  • Walking: 35% of the workday
  • Lifting: 10% of the workday up to 30 lbs.
