About Georgians for a Healthy Future: Georgians for a Healthy Future (GHF) is a nonpartisan nonprofit consumer health advocacy organization located in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2008 with a mission to build and mobilize a unified voice, vision, and leadership to achieve a healthy future for all Georgians, GHF is one of the leading health advocacy and policy organizations in Georgia. GHF accomplishes its mission through public education and outreach, coalition building and mobilization, strategic communications, policy and data analysis, and public policy advocacy.

Job description: The Organizing Manager will be responsible for directing coalition strategies and activities and leading outreach, education, & organizing initiatives that advance health policy change to improve the health & well-being of marginalized Georgians. This position will expand, maintain and sustain strong relationships with partner groups, coalition member organizations, community leaders and others, and lead the coordination and implementation of these collaborative efforts. The Organizing Manager is also responsible for leading and growing GHF’s outreach and organizing efforts to engage and train Georgia consumers with the information and skills needed to lead & participate in advocacy for GHF’s policy priorities, as well as the larger movement for health justice and equity. A successful Organizing Manager will grow GHF’s partnerships in number and strength, as well as increase GHF’s base of support in size, diversity, and power.

Key responsibilities include:

Coalition leadership

  • Lead coalition strategy planning, backbone activities, management of project activities, and functions of Cover Georgia, Health Advocates, and other GHF-led coalitions
  • Develop and sustain successful long-term relationships with advocacy and civic groups, community leaders, direct service providers, and other partners who support GHF’s policy goals and participate in coalition activities
  • Identify and actively participate in high-value coalitions that expand GHF’s relationships relevant to our policy priorities and reach into Georgia communities
  • Facilitate ongoing communication between project partners by hosting regular conference calls, in-person meetings (when it is safe to do so), or coordinate regular email updates to ensure alignment of activity
  • Monitor the evolving political & policy landscapes that influence GHF’s advocacy efforts and collaborate with GHF staff and partner groups to adapt coalition activities as needed
  • Collaborate with other GHF staff and partner groups to develop and test effective, new organizing and mobilizing strategies and tools that strengthen and support coalition advocacy strategies

Community Engagement

  • Develop and implement lo-fi and high-tech outreach programming that allows GHF to reach populations most impacted by GHF’s policy priorities
  • Continuously improve GHF’s outreach material and practices, ensuring that they are effective at reaching diverse audiences, as well as accurate, interactive and actionable
  • Expand GHF’s base of supporters and constituent engagement (including through the Georgia Health Action Network) that can be activated by email/newsletter, attend events, advocacy, etc.
  • Oversee the Georgia Health Action Network program as a vehicle for training Georgia consumers to become skilled organizers for health justice & equity
  • Plan and manage the logistics of GHF-hosted outreach events, as well as attending designated community events
  • Identify, secure, and represent GHF at speaking engagements and other public events
  • In collaboration with GHF’s Story Collection Coordinator, identify community partners and outreach opportunities that facilitate story collection with priority populations
  • Drive activities and initiatives that ensure that annual outreach goals are achieved
  • Respond to general consumer questions/inquiries about their public or private health coverage, including referring consumers to appropriate direct-service providers who can assist consumers through more complex issues/questions

Management of programs

  • In collaboration with GHF’s Health Policy Analyst, collect, organize and analyze data for the purposes of program evaluation and strategy-building
  • Draft progress or summary reports, including indicators of advocacy success/effectiveness for coalition partners, funders, and other audiences as needed
  • Conduct regular and consistent planning with GHF staff and partners to ensure program effectiveness, impact and continuous learning
  • Supervise the work of part-time interns and volunteers


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many different stakeholders and constituencies
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust
  • Creativity, ability to adapt, manage ambiguity and be solution oriented. Desire to learn and experiment with different approaches.
  • Experience applying adult education methodology in group facilitation and developing participatory workshops
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong and effective communicator
  • Ability to work well autonomously and as a member of a collaborative team
  • Flexibility and an ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of the health issues facing Georgians with low incomes; Black, immigrant, and other Georgians of color; and people living in rural areas
  • Understanding of state policy/political environment and processes
  • Familiarity with health care policy issues (ex: Medicaid expansion, the Affordable Care Act, public health systems, )

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Strong commitment to race equity, and social and economic justice
  • Five (5) years’ experience in community organizing, community outreach & education, and/or campaign strategy
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; training in adult or health education/learning methodologies preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of computers and technology: proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and audio/visual and conference calling technology

Working Conditions

Works in general office environment and travels to venues or other outside facilities where meetings are held. Some evening or weekend hours may be required. Applicants must be able to tolerate Georgia’s weather conditions and be willing to drive to venues in varied weather conditions. Sitting, standing, walking, and driving are required. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

While GHF’s office is located at 50 Hurt Plaza SE, Suite 806, Atlanta, GA 30303, the Organizing Manager does not need to be based in the metro-Atlanta area. Location is flexible with the understanding that the Manager will be required to travel to GHF’s office at times. 

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this full-time position is $50,000-$60,000, depending on experience. Medical, dental, and vision insurance will be provided.
