DoSomething.org is a movement to create the most socially active generation in history.

DoSomething is the largest not-for-profit company exclusively for young people and social change. Our digital platform with over 5 million members is activating young people to create offline impact in every US area code and in 131 countries. By activating young people now, we transform them into activists who will make lasting, systemic change to solve the world’s problems. Our work makes social change accessible and engaging to as many young people as possible. We achieve this through large scale digital and offline social change campaigns that activate young people to take action frequently and repeatedly, as an on-ramp to long-term behavior change. Our members have clothed half of America's homeless youth. They've cleaned up 3.7 million cigarette butts. They've run the world's largest youth-led sports equipment drive. And more! DoSomething also operates a growing social impact strategy consultancy that allows us to have an even greater impact by applying our deep understanding of engaging young people around causes they care about to help brands and organizations tap into the power of young people (consumers, donors, and advocates) and purpose.Young people have the power and the passion to transform their communities -- we help them get it done.

Position

DoSomething is at a pivotal juncture in its journey, presenting the opportunity to review and refine its vision for the future in preparation for the next strategic phase of growth: delivering on the mission of mobilizing young people to have real world impact in ways that don’t require money, an adult, or a car. Building on over 25 years of success, DoSomething is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to oversee this transition and provide vision, leadership and management of all aspects of the organization.

The CEO will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors in developing and implementing the strategic plan and refining and communicating the mission, vision, values and purpose both internally and externally. The CEO will bring new energy and fresh perspective to the organization’s work including internal operations, finances, team development, innovative programming opportunities, and new partnership and revenue stream models. The next CEO will build and embody an anti-racist, inclusive and equitable workplace culture where all staff feel a sense of belonging and alignment with the mission, vision, values and purpose.  The CEO will partner with the board and staff to leverage and secure resources, serving as the chief fundraiser, storyteller and visionary for DoSomething

This person will have ultimate responsibility for the performance of the growing organization currently comprised of a ~45-person team and overall revenues of $11.4 million. The CEO will report to the Board of Directors, directly manage and develop the five-person executive team and act as the key representative and face of the organization to external audiences. The ideal person is an authentic, inspiring, visionary leader who manages with empathy and vulnerability and brings stellar relationships, ambitious innovative ideas, fresh perspective and unimpeachable values. This person knows how to lead a team, unify them with a singular clear vision, and communicate with transparency and honesty.

Responsibilities Strategic Vision and Leadership

  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the team, challenging the status quo and inspiring innovation while ensuring the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization; establishing effective decision-making processes that will enable DoSomething to achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives.

  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against milestones and goals.

  • Develop and nurture new and existing philanthropic relationships while increasing DoSomething’s capacity for fundraising and development.

  • Ensure that the flow of funds allows for continuous progress with achieving the mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential.

Team Leadership

  • Build and maintain a high-performing anti-racist and inclusive culture of transparency, trust, collaboration and fun where all employees feel welcomed, appreciated and have equal access to opportunity including young people and people from intersectional and marginalized experiences and groups.

  • Unfailingly model the desirable attributes of the culture, passionately advocate for them, and exhibit an understanding, sensitivity, and responsiveness to the cultural and multigenerational differences present in the employee and member population.

  • Lead, coach, mentor and build the senior leadership team to deliver high quality, innovative and responsive campaigns and programs and develop a leadership bench strength capable of addressing the challenges of a highly dynamic organization while managing for current and future growth.

  • Oversee the financial status of the organization including developing long and short range financial plans, monitoring the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place and setting financial priorities accurately.

  • Ensure the full team is well-resourced, developed and supported to achieve growth and innovation, meet goals, deliver on commitments, adapt to changes and provide the highest quality support and services to members and partners.
