Full Time: Sunday - Thursday; Tuesday - Saturday; Friday - Monday (partial weekend availability is a must)

Work hours:  7:00am - 3:00pm; 3:00pm - 11:00pm; 11:00pm - 7:00am;  

Hourly Rate: $13.50 - $15; 

Position Description:

Adults provide guidance and support to youth and young adults at The Center for Children & Young Adults. CCYA provides services to young women and men ages 13-21. Adults provide nurturing, structure and consistent routine and support healthy choices that include pursuit of educational and vocational goals. Position Reports to the Program Director.

Organization & Philosophy:

The Center for Children & Young Adults (CCYA) is a three building campus housing youth and young adults between the ages of 13 and 21 who have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused, who require additional supervision and services in a group care environment. Our goal is to increase skills sets that will allow youth to return to a less restrictive environment such as reunification, kinship, foster or adoptive placement, or self-sufficiency. CCYA is seeking adults to manage and lead our three programs into excellence and achievement.  CCYA is not a detention center based on punitive or punishment driven practices; nor are we a residential treatment facility or mental health hospital.  

Job Characteristics and Qualifications:

Position requires initiative, dependability, and exceptional problem solving skills and follow-through.  Candidates must be skilled in working with young people and exceptional in building rapport and trust, while providing consistent, supportive, and engaged supervision.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and 2 years experience;
  • College may substitute for experience; 
  • Must have a high level of confidence and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Skills in understanding, developing, and motivating children and youth;
  • Current and valid driver’s license and meet insurance eligibility standards
  • Must pass physical, drug screen, criminal history and fingerprint clearances
  • Must be flexible to complete one week of new-hire orientation training

Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:

  • College Degree
  • Knowledge of adolescent and child growth and development;
  • Strong verbal, writing, and computer skills;
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and/or working with teenagers and young adults;
  • Training in crisis prevention/intervention, and or certification in CPR and Basic First Aid
  • Training and consulting in behavior management a plus.

Job Duties and Related Information:

Adults work together with Program Managers to provide a healthy and stable environment that fosters growth and development of youth and young adults. Adults and youth engage in a variety of healing and well-being modalities that value healthy choices and the development of positive relationships.  Adults guide, praise, and holds individuals accountable for their choices and behavior.  Acts in a professional manner and maintains appropriate boundaries with residents, staff, and collaborative partners.  Exercises good judgment, solves problems and shows resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.  Positive interaction with youth throughout shift. 

Assists in the planning, implementing, and supervision of resident activities on and off campus; responsible for maintaining a dormitory-style environment, which includes, but not limited to, supervising daily routines and chores; assists with administering and monitoring medications and maintains medication logs; assists youth in finding appropriate solutions to problems.

Compiles information such as residents’ daily activities and prepares required reports. Must have the ability adequately complete administrative paperwork and computer driven documentation in a timely manner; provides transportation and/or accompany residents on outings, i.e., shopping trips, doctor appointments, etc. Adults will supervise and engage youth in housekeeping to ensure mastery of skills and adherence to standards; accompany, engage, and supervise meal and snack time; ensure youth have proper clothing and are adequately dressed for school or other activities; performs other tasks as required or assigned.

Guides residents in health and fitness (nutrition & meal planning, exercising), social skills (dating/relationships, conflict resolution), behavior management (attitude), and cognitive skills (judgment, decision-making). Works with Program Directors to ensure all medical, mental health, and education-related appointments are scheduled and attended; maintains client files with applicable incident reports, and other required documentation when specified. Completes all other duties as assigned.
