The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 150 staff working collaboratively to provide close to 50 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. Join our friendly, collaborative and hardworking Development team. We’re looking for a talented fundraising professional to fill the position of Annual Fund Manager and help lead the effort to raise funds from a large pool of individual donors giving under $10,000 annually.  

POSITION PURPOSE

The Annual Fund Manager is an independent and strategic individual who will propose and execute the strategy for our offline fundraising campaigns. They will work collaboratively with the Director of Annual Fund (DAF), Digital Fundraising Manager (DFM), and Annual Fund Coordinator (AFC) to ensure the overall success of the Development team, with an annual revenue goal of $25.9 million. The right person for the job will be a data-driven fundraiser with the ability to lead the creation of inspiring campaigns. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • In collaboration with the DAF and DFM, set strategy and creative direction for the Annual Fund program, helping the team improve retention and acquisition rates to meet our fundraising goals. 
  • Support the DAF in developing and maintaining an annual revenue and expense budget and creating a strategic work plan for the Annual Fund each year. 
  • Execute or lead execution of offline Annual Fund fundraising activities, including direct mail, telephone fundraising, and new revenue channels, with an eye toward experimentation where possible. 
  • Maintain a production calendar, facilitating the content review process and keep projects on schedule and within budget. 
  • Manage data requests for offline campaigns, reviewing mailing lists, recognition lists and financial reports for accuracy. 
  • Act as the primary liaison with outside vendors and look for ways to improve the output of these relationships.  
  • Produce high level, regular reports of campaign performance to help the team learn and track trends with the support of the Development Operations team. 
  • Help to expand Food Bank’s monthly giving program, working with the DFM and AFC to develop a consistent stewardship strategy. 
  • Support the DAF in the development and implementation of a strategy for cultivating and upgrading MidLevel ($1,000 - $9,999) donors in collaboration with Leadership Gifts team. 
  • Support the DAF and Director of Marketing and Communications in developing and communicating consistent and compelling messaging about the Food Bank and its work for stakeholders, supporters, and the wider community. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least four years nonprofit fundraising experience. 
  • Proven track record managing successful Direct Mail campaigns. 
  • Ability to craft creative, mission-driven copy that motivates donors to give.  
  • Excellent vendor management and relationship skills. 
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation.  
  • Experience working with CRM tools, preferably Raiser’s Edge. 
  • Strong project management skills; experience with Basecamp a plus. 
  • Detail oriented; able to complete complex projects accurately with minimal supervision. 
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office. 
  • Knowledge of current nonprofit fundraising best practices. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability and personality to work collaboratively. 
  • Ability to react to changing situations appropriately, showing adaptability to quickly change tactics as necessary to improve revenue results. 

Your employment relationship with the SFMFB will be governed by the general employment policies and practices of the SFMB and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between SFMFB and OPEIU, LOCAL 29, OFFICE AND PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION.

COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of complex intellectual and practical problems.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform advanced math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Fluency in English. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
