PROJECT SUMMARY
First Peoples Fund is actively recruiting for an Archivist (or similar) to lead an archival project in our office in Rapid City, South Dakota (some limited work can be done remotely). The position will be a temporary contract position and is expected to begin in Fall 2020 and last for approximately 6 - 8 months.
We seek to hire a consultant to create an intuitive, easy to navigate, and highly organized digital archive system of a wide range of photo images, video files, and paper documents. This includes the implementation of metadata workflows; gaining overall knowledge of the corpus of digital materials; the creation of metadata records for easy retrieval of digital content; the actualization of policies and processes regarding the creation, storage, preservation, organization, description, naming conventions and access to these materials; and, providing First Peoples Fund with proper project documentation.
Responsibilities and duties
- Design and establish digital collections, content management, organization, and storage structures that reflect the organization’s physical and digital archival needs and contents use.
- Process and organize independently large and diverse content for unified representation in the archive
- Preserve the intellectual and artifactual value of archival material by determining the need for documentation.
- Design and establish policies and tools to ease staff access, retrieval, sharing, and documentation of digital content
- Promote knowledge and training about digital content organization to employees and assistant with content retrieval
Qualifications and background
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (examples: library sciences, museums studies, archival certificate, information management)
- 3 - 5 years of professional experience with content management, records management, and/or archival management
- Strong skills in digital archiving + managing metadata
- Strong communication skills
- Exceptional project management skills, independence, and self-motivation
- Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making environment, as both a teammate and project leader
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex work
- Familiarity with the Google Suite, and project management software specifically Basecamp
