MASSCAP is the association of the 23 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) – federally mandated anti-poverty agencies serving close to 600,000 people in virtually every city and town in the state.  CAAs were created more than 55 years ago as part of the war on poverty to eliminate the paradox of poverty amidst plenty and to foster economic mobility and stability among our vulnerable friends and neighbors living with low incomes.  MASSCAP’s mission is to strengthen and connect the statewide network of Community Action Agencies and collectively advocate for an end to poverty.  Learn more at www.masscap.org.

The Projects and Grants Manager will manage projects critical to the successful pursuit of the MASSCAP mission. One critical project that will be part of the scope of work is to proactively lead, manage and strengthen the MASSCAP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) network on an ongoing basis. The Projects and Grants Manager will also work with MASSCAP lead staff to seek, develop, and provide overall management of MASSCAP grants.

Scope of Work

  • Proactively leads, manages, and strengthens the MASSCAP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) network including:
  • Working closely with VITA site coordinators to improve practices, recruit and retain volunteers, maintain high level of tax preparation production and accuracy
  • Coordinating trainings and technical assistance for network
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with national and local partners
  • Acting as the liaison with IRS and local partnership office
  • Gathering and maintaining an archive of VITA taxpayer success stories
  • Managing the reporting and budgeting needed for federal and state grants to MASSCAP to support the network
  • Leading the development of federal, state, and private funding requests to support the network
  • Manages/supports the management of short- and long-term projects including research, network-wide services, data-gathering, support for social media or web-based information campaigns, etc. (as needed)
  • Provides database and outreach support to the MASSCAP Training Center
  • Maintains and updates grant compliance spreadsheets detailing all MASSCAP grant requirements
  • Researches and recommends the pursuit of grant opportunities for MASSCAP and its members on a regular basis

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead projects and facilitate group collaboration and consensus
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience working with nonprofits
  • Ability to collect and work with data
  • Experience with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance a plus
  • Experience with Community Action a plus
  • Position is part time (20 hours/week). Must be available to start in early December 2020
