Job Title: Community Outreach Director

Organization

The North Georgia Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (NGA LITC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping low income people and families in its community achieve financial independence by conducting educational events and outreach activities to provide information about tax issues and providing direct representation and assistance for low-income individuals and families experiencing tax controversies. The NGA LITC provides services to people and families of all races and ethnicities across the state, and our primary outreach efforts are targeted towards Hispanic, Latinx, immigrant, and refugee communities in metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

Over the past year, the NGA LITC has represented more than 100 low-income clients in a range of tax matters. We have helped our clients reduce or compromise more than $800,000 in tax liabilities and obtain more than $40,000 in refunds, and we have provided information about important tax topics to many more through outreach events and the distribution of educational materials. This assistance has helped our clients remain in homes, keep children in school, and pursue new career opportunities.

Overall Summary

The Community Outreach Director will provide essential support to the NGA LITC’s community outreach and engagement efforts. These efforts will include helping to build and maintain relationships with key community partners to facilitate collaborative efforts to spread awareness of the organization and its programs and to host programs to educate community members about important tax issues. They will also include coordinating various aspect of planning such events. In addition to its primary community outreach role, the Community Outreach Director will provide support to all operations of the NGA LITC. This will include assisting with fundraising, including preparing grant applications and monitoring grant award compliance, and assisting with direct client representations to help resolve tax cases.

Essential Functions

  • Community Outreach (50%)
  • Identifying opportunities for collaborations with partners for community outreach and education events
  • Networking with key community partners, including nonprofits, advocates, businesses, and associations
  • Develop materials to highlight organization’s work and accomplishments for community members
  • Planning and coordinating outreach event logistics
  • Maintaining organization’s website update feed and social media profiles
  • Attending trainings to remain current on community outreach methods and implementing best practices
  • Fundraising Support (30%)
  • Identifying and preparing applications for foundation grant opportunities
  • Identifying potential major donors
  • Building and maintaining a network of foundation contacts
  • Planning and executing periodic fundraising initiatives and events
  • Attending trainings on foundation fundraising methods
  • Managing donor and community partner information database
  • Assistance with Legal Work (20%)
  • Supporting clinic’s direct client representations by organizing documents and filings, drafting correspondence, and assisting in managing case flows
  • Curating and maintaining client files, including both physical files and online client information database

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Legal industry and/or nonprofits experience
  • Fundraising and/or sales experience
  • Fluency in multiple languages, particularly Spanish

Hours and Compensation

  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Normal business hours
  • Remote work permitted during COVID-19 pandemic
  • Compensation: $40,000 annual salary + health benefits
