The SF Marin Food Bank is comprised of a dedicated team of approximately 150 staff working collaboratively to provide close to 50 million pounds of food to over 210,000 people in the Bay Area – a region where 1 in 4 people are at risk of hunger. We are currently looking for a Temp. Cantonese Line Management Specialist- (Part-Time Position) to help in leading our program efforts of our organization. This position is approximately 50-55 hours per month and can vary from 10 to 20 hours a week.

POSITION PURPOSE

The SF- Marin Food Bank’s (SFMFB) mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin. The Supplemental Food Program (SFP) is a federal program that provides a monthly box of nutritious USDA food to low-income seniors. The Temporary Line Management Specialist will assist SFP by engaging with participants, occasionally distribute food boxes, maintain a safe work environment, and help manage the distribution lines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Provide excellent customer service to program participants.
  • Ensures social distancing and other public health best practices among participants.
  • Responsible for managing distribution lines at SFP distribution sites in San Francisco county. This includes setting up stanchions for the line, directing participants to check-in and distribution, and answering participant questions.
  • Works with SFP team to have a well-run distribution including, but not limited to line management, issuing food boxes to participants, distribution set-up and breakdown.
  • Ensures distributions are a friendly and positive experience for everyone, creating a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual in Cantonese.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Be able to resolve conflicts (assist dissatisfied participants), good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to multitask.
  • Ability to work and interact well with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment.

Schedule

  • This is a temporary position for 3-6 months contingent on staffing necessity.
  • The schedule changes from week to week.
  • The schedule for the month is given a month ahead of time.
  • A typical schedule is from 9am to 1:00pm (possibly until 2:30pm) for 2 to 5 days a week during weekdays.
  • This position is approximately 50-55 hours per month and can vary from 10 to 20 hours a week.
  • Additional hours will be available on an as needed basis.

Environment: Work is performed at 9 different sites, some with multiple distributions, throughout San Francisco, based in churches, public housing sites and recreation centers. Staff is required to work outside in inclement weather when necessary.

Finger dexterity: Requires typing on standard computer.

TALKING: Ability to speak on phone and face to face.

HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Frequent and regular movements using the wrists, hands, and fingers.

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to view computer screens and documents.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Ability to regularly lift food boxes ranging from 30 lbs. to 40 lbs. as needed during distribution hours.

COMMUNICATION AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to interpret instructions.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Fluency in English. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
