Program and Position Overview

The Chief People Officer (CPO) will lead Hamilton Families’ (HF) strategic human resource efforts including diversity, equity, and inclusion, talent acquisition and retention, compensation and benefits, leadership and organizational development, internal communications, and employee engagement, while fostering a humane working environment consistent with HF’s organizational values and objectives. The CPO will develop an annual  organizational development strategy and lead its implementation with the HF human resources team, which provides a full spectrum of human resources services.  The CPO will serve as a strategic advisor, content expert, interlocutor, and coach around key human resource and management issues for the HF executive and leadership teams.  The CPO will have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of human resource programs, processes, systems, and tools in support of HF’s day-to-day functions.  The CPO reports to the Chief Executive Officer, and leads a team of five HR professionals.     

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 
•    Develop and implement an annual organizational development strategy to support HF’s mission and strategic goals. 
•    Partner with organizational leadership to develop, define, and align human resources priorities with organizational strategy.
•    Lead in the development and implementation of HF’s goals and strategies with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion.
•    Serve as an active and engaged member of the Executive Team, working collaboratively to integrate and systematize cross-departmental initiatives, and develop innovative solutions to org-wide challenges.  
•    Assess and mitigate potential risk to the organization by identifying and implementing policies, procedures and practices that improve the health and safety of the overall work environment while reducing the risk of harm to both staff and participants.
•    Develop HR infrastructure to support HF to be a premier employer in its sector.
•    In consultation with HF’s Communications Manager, develop and implement an internal communications program to educate and engage employees.
•    Develop, implement, and oversee talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies and plans.
•    Oversee an employee performance management process that cultivates an environment of continuous improvement.
•    Work with leadership to support compensation equity, consistency, and competitiveness.
•    Oversee the administration of employee benefit plans and work with brokers and third-party vendors to evaluate, benchmark, and continuously improve the quality of offerings.
•    Serve as the executive leadership spokesperson in labor relations and ensure a highly effective and productive employee relations environment. 
•    Maintain agency compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
•    Oversee the development and management of all  HR budgets.
•    Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
•    5-7 years of progressively responsible professional and leadership experience in senior human resources roles, including experience developing people and culture through periods of significant organizational growth and change.
•    Sophisticated author and practitioner of equitable and inclusive human resource policies and strategies; record of success in building diverse, engaged workplaces.
•    Effective HR tactician and strategist, with the ability simultaneously to manage multiple priorities and projects.
•    PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
•    In-depth knowledge of leveraging HRIS systems – experience with ADP strongly preferred.
•    Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
•    Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations governing fair employment practices. 
•    Exceptional organizational and time-management skills; able to successfully meet deadlines.
•    Self-directed; able to take initiative and to work successfully as a project leader or team member.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong ability to communicate successfully across all levels of the organization.
•    Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). 
•    Sensitivity to the needs of families experiencing homelessness; able and willing to work with diverse staff and program participants.
•    Criminal background check and fingerprint imaging required post offer. 
•    TB (tuberculosis) clearance and documentation required post-offer.
•    Essential job functions include using a telephone and working at a standard computer terminal; able to perform job duties with reasonable ergonomic accommodations; able to sit and stand for long intervals, reach, bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and walk up and down several flights of stairs several times every shift.
