Position Location: Preferably New York City or Washington DC, with a willingness to travel. Remote also considered.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Fed Up Campaign Digital Manager to help lead an exciting economic justice campaign.

About the campaign:

Fed Up is an innovative economic justice campaign working for full employment, rising wages, and a more accountable Federal Reserve Bank. The Fed is the most important economic policy institution in the country. The Fed is supposed to represent the interests of the broad public, but it often prioritizes the needs of the financial industry. This was true before the current crisis, and it is even more true now. And, the Fed shrouds it work in jargon to avoid public accountability.

The Fed Up Campaign challenges this by combining strategically targeted grassroots organizing and communications with a sharp understanding of the Fed’s authority. Fed Up is a national campaign with local organizing; we draw on the grassroots base of CPD’s affiliate groups to target the most powerful economic policymakers in the country–who are, nonetheless, accessible and moveable.  Fed Up has an explicit focus on racial justice and fights for an economy in which the livelihoods of Black and Latino families are valued fully by our political and economic decision-makers.

The Fed Up Campaign centers the interests and the voices of working people in our activities. In the five years since the campaign began, we have won significant change by fighting for monetary policy that is centered on the goals of full employment and rising wages, and that meets the needs of working people instead of the financial industry.

About CPD + CPDA:

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 45 partner organizations in more than 38 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

We are seeking a Campaign  Digital Manager.  This position reports to the Fed Up Campaign Director.

We are looking for an experienced,creative Digital Manager who can help plan and run this campaign and build powerful local coalitions of low-income communities of color to fight against financial industry control of our nation’s economic policy. The campaign will work in two separate but related ways:

  • Grassroots organizing through grassroots partner groups – CPD affiliates receiving campaign funding – located in six regional Federal Reserve cities across the country, as well as national partners in Washington DC.

  • Digital organizing of potential campaign allies across the country who can be brought into the work using creative on-line to in-real-life organizing strategies.

Working closely with the Campaign Director, the Digital Manager will have primary responsibility for coordinating the digital organizing strategies. This includes working with the Director to create improved digital communications tactics to build more effective on-line to in-real-life activism that can expand our organizing strategy beyond our affiliates, and also respond to events more quickly and powerfully.

This position offers generous salary and benefits, commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities

The Digital Manager will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a new “on-line to in-real-life” organizing model that casts a wide net to build a cadre of Fed-issue activists that we can engage and mobilize.

    •  This includes using digital activist tools to engage people with our on-line presence.

    • Engaging directly with interested people to initiate a one-on-one digital conversation, then move them down an in-person organizing pathway by connecting them with an activity at a local CPD affiliate.

    •  We also expect to develop and maintain an on-line community of Fed-engaged activists with regular information back-and-forth and opportunities for digital activism.

  • Work with the Fed Up Director to carry out all aspects of the campaign, including an advocacy and organizing agenda focused on our key goals:

    • Taking on the Fed’s central role in response to the current economic crisis by pushing the Fed to fund interventions that support Main Street instead of Wall Street.

    • Working for institutional reform of the Fed by pressuring the Fed to appoint senior leadership of the 12 local regional Reserve Banks that is diverse and fully representative of the general public.

    • Fighting to reshape the Fed’s central monetary policy focus so it centers on full employment, rising wages, the interests or working people, especially from black and brown communities.

  • Support Fed Up campaign actions, such as:

    • Mobilizing grassroots leaders for key monetary policy hearings on Capitol Hill.

    • Planning and mobilizing for Fed Up’s annual alternative monetary policy conference, which we hold each year at the major world central banker’s conference.

    • Creative communication- and direct-action tactics to hold the Fed accountable to appoint senior leadership that is as diverse as and represents the interests of the general public.

  • Work with the Fed Up Director, staff, campaign consultants, and other allies to design and carry-out other key strategies, such as:

    • Effective on-line tools to engage and mobilize potential activists.

    • Multi-faceted communications strategies using social media and the traditional press to influence opinion leaders and decision makers.

    • Creating messaging and public education documents for the field and online, including reports, emails, briefs, policy demands, op-eds, letters to the editor, etc.

    • Strengthening our local coalitions of labor, community, faith, small business, and elected officials.

    • Working with regional and national partners to execute the strategy so that our demands enter the national dialogue and become a relevant presence at Federal Reserve policy-making meetings.

Job Requirements

  •  At least 6 years digital and campaign organizing experience, preferably with low-income communities of color;

  • Demonstrated experience working at a lead  level or leading some aspects of a complex campaign;

  • Some level of interest and comfort demonstrated with basic macroeconomic ideas and familiarity with some aspects of the national economic policy landscape. Expertise in macroeconomic economic issues not required/sought;

  • Experience building and working with broad-based issue coalitions, particularly conceiving and implementing effective systems of accountability;

  • Comfort with the creative implementation of a range of campaign strategies and tactics, including on-the-ground mobilizations and escalation, grassroots communications, and digital campaigning;

  • A demonstrated commitment to racial justice organizing, and fluency and understanding of the challenges facing Black and other communities of color, young people of color, immigrant communities, and low-and moderate income families;.

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Spanish language skills preferred but not required.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a union position. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be at an annual salary rate of $65,000-$75,000 and Category 2. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is available here.
