Description: The digital engagement manager plays a critical role in bringing Welcoming America’s mission of building a nation of neighbors to life. By leveraging digital content and tools to engage and activate members, donors, partners, and the general public, this position serves as an effective messenger, team player, and cheerleader for the organization in the digital space.

On any given day, this role will manage the project workflow of digital content (ie. blogs, infographics, publications, photos, videos, etc.) as well as the management of social media, email marketing, and websites.

Responsibilities

Content creation and project management (30%)

  • Project workflow: Manage the development of communications initiatives and products, including campaigns, fundraising, publications, toolkits, etc. Work with external vendors on graphic design and website developers on project onboarding, deadlines, deliverables, invoicing, etc.
  • Writing and editing: Compose and review communications materials to ensure coherence, consistency, and alignment of Welcoming America’s voice.
  • Digital asset management: Serve as the keeper of digital content files, including photos, videos, graphic design files, etc.
  • Graphic design: Create simple graphics for websites, email campaigns, social media toolkits, etc. Work with freelance graphic designers and project manage design-heavy projects

Managing digital platforms (30%)

  • Social media: Create and schedule posts across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram to ensure a consistent flow of content and engagement. Ensure Welcoming America fulfills its agreements with member and partner organizations to amplify campaigns. Source content from media alerts and newsletters, sharing notable moments with staff. Curate lists of influencers and press. Be proactive and strategic in engaging with members and partners on social media.
  • Website management: Manage the day-to-day updates to Welcoming America’s web properties, including blog posts, landing pages, content, and linking. Process website edit requests. Work with website contractors on technical updates and maintenance, identifying opportunities to enhance website functionality, as well as designing new pages for campaigns and other initiatives.
  • Email marketing: Compile content, design, and schedule monthly and quarterly newsletters, as well as standalone email campaigns. Manage lists and subscriber data. 
  • Analytics: Monitor metrics for aforementioned areas, setting goals and identifying areas of success and those for improvement.

Environmental scanning (20%)

  • Monitor and evaluate news coverage through email inbox monitoring, social media listening, and asking thoughtful questions to generate creative ideas for original content. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for partners and members on campaigns, toolkits, resources, and other inquiries on Welcoming America’s digital assets 

Professional development (10%)

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve skills and knowledge in the above areas.

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Proven track record of developing and amplifying campaigns via stories, content partnerships, and outreach
  • Demonstrated knowledge of website content management systems (ideally WordPress or Drupal)
  • Fundamental understanding of email marketing best practices and marketing automation tools (ex. Mailchimp, Emma, Pardot, Constant Contact, Hubspot, etc.) 
  • Experience using social media scheduling and reporting tools (ex. Hootsuite, Sprout, TweetDeck).
  • Understanding of digital analytics and ways to use data to calibrate campaign goals and outcomes
  • Superb writing and editing skills, with a solid understanding of branding principles and AP style
  • Demonstrated experience using graphic design tools, understanding of best practices for web and print, and working with outsourced graphic designers
  • Strong attention to detail in all areas mentioned above

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO), HTML and CSS
  • Knowledge of Facebook Business Manager and Google Adwords is a plus.
  • Interest in immigration, refugees, inclusion, equity, and/or community building is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Candidates must have a background in communications, journalism, media, marketing, or related fields, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • 3-4 years in a consistent communications related role, with demonstrated experience in digital platforms and storytelling, bringing initiatives and campaigns to life on digital platforms.
  • Experience working with a remote team

Other Requirements

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a brief writing test that may include synthesizing longform content into shareable pieces, as well as provide recommendations for amplifying it across communications platforms.

Work Environment

Due to the pandemic, candidates must be able to work remotely, with access to a reliable Internet connection. A laptop will be provided. Atlanta-based preferred, but may be based anywhere in the U.S. within Eastern time zone.
