Community Engagement Coordinator

Job Description

SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for facilitating community engagement strategies for Ferst Readers (Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy) with a focus on building relationships with community partners, volunteers and managing child literacy program registrations at community events in metropolitan areas.  The community engagement coordinator will work closely with the President & CEO in the overall coordination of Ferst Readers partnership deliverables in metro communities. This forward-facing position is designed as a community builder to assure adherence to the organization’s mission and values of early childhood literacy and academic readiness so that children enter school meeting benchmarks and equipped to learn. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with Ferst Readers staff to facilitate community relationships to:

  • Promote Ferst Readers at partner programming events
  • Register children and families to receive Ferst Readers books in their homes each month, free of charge, through funded partnerships
  • Facilitate community awareness of childhood literacy initiatives on behalf of Ferst Readers
  • Serve as an advocate in the community to ensure that all children, including underserved populations have access to books and academic readiness materials in their homes
  • Support Ferst Readers volunteers to promote childhood literacy and book registrations
  • Volunteer recruitment, training and mentoring
  • Build relationships and promote equitable access to books for young children
  • Work with Ferst Readers staff to assure children are properly registered in the database to receive books each month
  • Facilitate relationships with early childhood centers who receive or want to receive Ferst Reader books in their classrooms.
  • Facilitate relationships with early learning centers, corporations, civic organizations and faith-based partners of Ferst Readers.

QUALIFICATIONS      

As a prerequisite, must believe in the core values of Ferst Readers and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change to ensure that all children have access to books and academic resources at home.

Additional requirements are:

  • Solid educational background - undergraduate degree preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate the program’s value and impact in a large group setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented, able to maintain databases
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to transport Ferst Readers materials to registration events, up 15 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

WORKING CONDITIONS

         

This contractual position requires travel for meetings and group presentations. Position base locations: Metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia  and Metropolitan Dallas, Texas 

Position offers schedule flexibility.
