PROGRAM DIRECTOR, TEENTIX LA

About TeenTix LA

TeenTix LA is the central office for a community-wide effort that aims to increase arts access, engagement, and education for underrepresents teens, and to strengthen the overall arts ecosystem in Los Angeles. The mission of TeenTix LA is to build a bright future by empowering young people to take an active role in shaping their arts community as audience members, critics, influencers, advocates, patrons, and leaders. TeenTix LA is modeled after TeenTix that was first started in Seattle, Washington in 2014. TeenTix LA is a Chapter of TeenTix, and currently a fiscal sponsor of Fulcrum Arts.

Position

TeenTix LA is seeking an experienced full-time Program Director to launch this new organization, to increase our capabilities to successfully serve all teens and our organizational partners, and to maintain and build our strong relationship with TeenTix Seattle.

Job Summary

Working closely with the volunteer Advisory Council, the Program Director is responsible for launching TeenTix LA: implement the program, develop strategic goals and budget, maintain and build relationships with local organizational partners, the Teen Council and TeenTix Seattle, hire and manage all needed personnel, initiate a fundraising campaign and ongoing fundraising activity, organize special events and outreach activities that expand and deepen community engagement. Prospective Directors should have experience working with nonprofit organizations, experience with and an interest in arts and culture, ideally bilingual (Spanish language), a passion for working with young people, a good communicator, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, hard-working, very organized, adaptable, and an independent worker.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, evaluations, and consistent quality of finance and administration 
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial planning with the Advisory Board and staff, and oversee the implementation of all plans and policies 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, including general accounting practices  
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends related to the fields of arts engagement and youth development
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals 
  • Actively engage Advisory Board members and grow the Advisory Board
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components to measure success, and communicate outcomes to Advisory Board, funders and other stakeholders 
  • Prepare and manage annual budget together with the Treasurer 
  • Develop a strategic planning process for program advancement and organizational expansion 
  • Oversees recruitment, employment, and performance of all personnel
  • Supervise all volunteers and interns, including the Teen Advisory Council
  • Ensure job descriptions are developed, regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices, partners, and policies are in place
  • Responsible for all marketing and communications messaging

Fundraising Planning and Implementation

• Direct and implement a strategic fundraising plan in collaboration

• Implement a development calendar to meet annual goals using direct mail solicitation, online giving, social media strategies and event strategies

• Develop and maintain up-to-date policies and procedures

• Maintain donor records, ensure accurate gift tracking, and produce fundraising reports

• Research and identify grant opportunities

• Lead the effort in applying for grant funding, meet all funder requirements

  • Plan and implement fundraising events that grow community engagement and financial support

Community Engagement

• Act as an ambassador for TeenTix LA. Visit community groups and organizations as needed

  • Sustain a broad multi-sector coalition composed of diverse leaders, community members, and stakeholders throughout the county who are committed to advancing arts access and serving underrepresented teens 
  • Establish working relationships, collaborations, and alliances with diverse community groups and arts organizations to implement TeenTix’s strategic initiatives

Qualities / Qualifications:

Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of work experience

  • Minimum 5 – 7 years of nonprofit experience in the arts
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with developing and implementing programs
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with fundraising (grant writing a plus)
  • Strong interest or experience in arts management
  • Experience overseeing financial budgets and systems 
  • Experience with supervising staff, interns, and volunteers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Good verbal and written communications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and innovate
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and be self-initiating
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Docs
  • Strong skills in management, facilitation, conflict resolution, and team building 
  • Fluency in another language than English (Spanish preferred)
  • Well-versed in social media marketing and content creation
  • Knowledge and experience with digital technologies (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities and marginalized populations

Compensation & Benefits

$70,000 – $85,000

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefit package includes medical, paid holidays, vacation, and sick paid time off.   

Location of Office: To be determined (Los Angeles County)
