Organization Overview:

Imagine Scholar seeks to catalyze untapped human potential. Situated in one of the world's most challenging contexts for quality education, rural South Africa, our bespoke programming and innovative curriculum cultivate students' innate curiosity. Operating with a craftsmanship ethos, we've designed an educational journey that challenges tenacious young leaders to think critically and empathetically, enacting positive change within themselves and their communities. Imagine Scholar is not just a world-class education program. We see ourselves as a test-kitchen for progressive education, understanding that self-actualization and personal growth should not be a luxury confined to expensive and exclusive private schools.

Position Overview:

The Development Intern is an exciting opportunity to impact the progression of a small but dynamic nonprofit organization, taking an autonomous and proactive role in building necessary resources. This internship is a great stepping stone for early-career professionals to establish themselves in the nonprofit sector, and more seasoned professionals to transition into working in the non-profit sector. Our hope is that you leave the internship with a toolkit of relevant skills and an understanding of the fundamentals and inner workings of a small non-profit.

The first phase of this internship is focused on learning. You will provide critical support to the Development staff on the execution of grant applications and management of fundraising databases. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop online content. Over the course of the internship, you will receive bi-weekly one-on-one coaching with Imagine Scholar’s Associate Director, who leads the organization’s development efforts. These will include guidance on prospect research, developing meaningful donor relationships, stewardship, and event planning, amongst other skills. Additionally, you will receive at least two coaching sessions from Imagine Scholar’s Executive Director, on non-profit management and administration.

As you learn about the different facets of non-profit development, you will then create and execute your own fundraising campaign, and drive online engagement to support the organization’s fundraising efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute an independent fundraising campaign

    Assist in CRM data management

Contribute to social media and content marketing

Assist in copy editing and research for donor communication, grant writing, etc

Continual learning and bi-directionally sharing knowledge

Candidates Will Have:

  • Self-starter mentality, ability to work independently

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Passion for learning and continual personal & professional development

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required

Other details:

  • Commitment: Part-time (10-15 hours/week)

    Duration: 3 months

Final Note:

This is the perfect transitional opportunity for young professionals looking to explore the world of non-profit management, international development, and social impact. We offer ample training, support, and resources to empower your personal and professional growth. Still, at the core, this position requires a self-motivated individual who can excel with iterative work styles and ambiguity.

This unique internship opportunity allows you to gain a wide variety of skills useful in the non-profit sector. The Imagine Scholar community is built of both youth and adults looking to constantly learn and grow. Being part of our team means getting to be a student again and learning many new skills amongst a group of innovative, young leaders. Upon completion of the internship, there is a potential for visiting our campus in South Africa and the possibility of joining the team in a paid, full-time position.
