About the Managing Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Opportunity:

At Share Our Strength we are aware of the many ways that injustice impacts our staff and partners in the field, and we recognize the systemic connections between poverty, racism, and hunger. We believe we have an imperative to leverage our program strategy and initiatives to confront and address the systemic issues that lead to hunger. We also believe that becoming an actively anti-racist organization is a dynamic process and evolution, and requires continued development to best address the needs of hungry children in the US and the struggles their families face. We know the work of equity and inclusion in a diverse organization is fundamental to our ability to have an impact, our health and strength as an organization, and that it will require everyone's commitment and dedicated effort. We are ready to confront these issues and are looking for a Managing Director that will lead and support this process.

The Managing Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will bring significant field expertise to lead our big picture DEI visioning, including how our DEI work will make us a more impactful, stronger, better performing organization. They will do this by creating the overarching organizational framework to ensure that the work is integrated in every aspect of our work, ensuring that DEI is tangibly reflected and infused in every part of the organization.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, and with a seat on the Executive team, the organization’s first dedicated Managing Director of DEI will have the exciting opportunity to join an organization that is eager to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive, and looking to this Managing Director to provide expertise, guidance, and compassionate leadership. The Managing Director of DEI will provide organization-wide leadership to cultivate and champion a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture, centered on our core values. The Managing Director will partner closely with staff across the organization, soliciting and utilizing input from others to build a reasonable, realistic, meaningful, and sustainable approach to DEI. This Managing Director will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of Share Our Strength’s diversity framework, and subsequent goals, metrics, and assessments that support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Build out the organizational vision, strategy, and framework for DEI: In partnership with leadership, Human Resources, and the DEI Committee, develop the overarching vision, strategy, and framework for DEI, identifying biggest areas of need, key components, goals, ways of measurement, and evaluation, creating the pathway for SOS to infuse DEI in all of its work and practices. Develop and implement a holistic and comprehensive DEI learning and training strategy.
  • Operationalize Share Our Strength’s DEI Strategy: Provide leadership, collaboration, and support to teammates to differentiate our organizational vision for DEI into role-specific actions and performance management/accountability systems. Ensure that our DEI vision is infused into the DNA of the organization through its systems, tools, policies, structures, and practices.
  • Stay Curious, and Build Upon Your Expertise: Stay connected internally and externally, leveraging data, insights, and industry trends to lead, influence, support, and facilitate ongoing organizational change with fresh insights and proposals. Stay current on DEI developments, opportunities, and metrics/trends outside the organization and use that knowledge to fine-tune our DEI goals and direction. Work with outside organizations (e.g., universities, associations, advocacy groups) to research and implement custom and effective initiatives.
  • Support the Identification and Resolution of Internal Equity Issues: Support and advocate for colleagues who are impacted by issues of equity and inclusion, and champion a culture of feedback and training for those who need to develop their cultural competencies. In collaboration across departments, develop consistent communication and feedback mechanisms and practices to ensure we are able to identify, discuss, and address equity issues internally. Support colleagues in developing cultures of belonging, supportive of diverse perspectives across external partnerships.

Strong background working with diverse partners to successfully implement large scale projects and/or build collaboration around specific goals or programs. Successful budget management experience. Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, prioritize, and work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
