Videographer in Residence for several children’s hospitals in the Sacramento area

Baykids Studios is a small non-profit organization based in San Francisco. For over 20 years, we have been helping children express themselves through film-making, typically in the hospital setting.

We are seeking an experienced videographer/filmmaker to work part time with school aged and adolescent patients coping with serious medical conditions in an inpatient hospital setting. While creating their own films with support from the videographer, patients are taught the basic art and science of filmmaking, story development and post production. Common films created are documentaries, drama, comedy, green screen, science fiction, claymation or music videos. The process of filmmaking provides patients with a creative outlet to express themselves while serving as a distraction from the challenges of hospitalization.

Job Description

The videographer in residence works closely and frequently collaborates with the creative arts therapy team to make films with children and teens in the inpatient pediatric setting. The videographer will visit the hospital several days per month. This is an hourly based job with approximately 20 hours a month in the field plus the time needed to edit the films.

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with patients and their families to empower and support them in bringing their ideas to film
  • Filming and capturing audio using Baykids equipment
  • Editing the footage off site and communicating with families about the finished result
  • Receiving feedback from the creative arts therapy team to ensure the best therapeutic

  • Co-organizing and attending the annual Creative Arts Film Festival where consented Baykids films are showcased

Qualifications

  • Experience shooting in the field and ability to cope with limited time, space constraints and ambient noise
  • The videographer must be comfortable with the emotional challenges of hospital environment and follow HIPAA guidelines
  • Previous experience (voluntary or paid) working with children is preferred.
  • Must have excellent knowledge in several Adobe Creative Cloud applications, mainly
  • Premiere Pro, PS, AE and Media Encoder
  • Ability to build rapport with patients while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Must pass a background check, drug test and provide proof of immunizations to the hospital
