Position Description: Executive Director

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

East Atlanta Kids Club seeks an Executive Director (ED) who can passionately lead East Atlanta Kids Club to help promising youth to uncover their potential and build a strong future through participation in EAKC’s holistic out-of-school time program.  For 21 years, EAKC has been providing a safe and nurturing place for kids to play, relax, learn, create and express themselves under supervision of caring adults; exposing them to educational, recreational, and cultural experiences; helping them to build character, self-esteem and respect for others; preparing them to thrive in diverse communities; and helping them to bridge the technological divide through a  STEAM-focused curriculum.  The current ED and Founder has announced plans to step out of the ED role and to serve as a supportive advisor starting early 2020.  The organization is seeking a new ED to be in place by February 2020.

AGENCY MISSION & REACH

East Atlanta Kids Club serves children and teens aged 7-17, the vast majority of whom are African-American, live in low-income households, and attend Title 1 schools.  Most youth participate at no charge to ensure accessibility.  EAKC’s goal is for each participant to recognize their innate value, talent, and capabilities so they can make constructive decisions, excel academically, and develop healthy habits.  Since inception EAKC has served more than 1,000 youth, and is currently serving approximately 100 annually.  Each year an average of 72% show improvements in language arts; 65% demonstrate improvement in math, and 84% of high school students go on to college or technical schools.

EAKC is located in East Atlanta and currently operates in the Brownwood Park neighborhood of southeast Atlanta, serving kids typically within a few miles of the park, and using buses to transport kids from school and to their homes to support their participation.  EAKC was founded by a small group of local residents and maintains a strong grassroots neighborhood heritage, with volunteer mentors and community-based partnerships nearby.  EAKC thrives on numerous programming partnerships across metro Atlanta, which enables fresh, innovative programming while ensuring moderate program costs.    EAKC operated with an approximate $500K budget in 2019, with revenue secured by public and private grants, income from its annual Brownwood Bike Rally, earned income, individual and corporate cash and in-kind donations.    The goal for 2020 and 2021 is to grow the budget to support growth from 100 to 120 kids served annually and to support other key strategic initiatives of the organization already underway with the addition of some dedicated development capacity brought in during the second half of 2019.
