Seneca Family of Agencies (SFA) is a statewide non-profit agency dedicated to serving children and families since 1985. Seneca is a widely recognized agency for providing quality mental health services with over 40 specialized programs in California and Washington. Seneca is looking for an experienced Development Director to lead our Southern California teams in both Orange and Los Angeles Counties.The Development Director will work towards expanding our network of corporations, foundations, and individuals to increase major donor support and annual gifts.

The Development Director will show a commitment to helping children and families through their most difficult times and have a successful background in nonprofit fundraising.  The Development Director will collaborate with the CEO and board members and understand the strategic importance of cultivating high level donors in the forms of major giving, legacy giving, grants development, community outreach, marketing and online marketing, media development, donor database management, special events, and other activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop an active understanding of Seneca Family of Agencies’ history, mission statement, and philosophy, as well as a working knowledge of Seneca’s programs and finances
  • Lead the Southern California Development team in creating and enhancing positive community relationships and financial support
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the members of the executive management team and the Board of Directors on development and strategic initiatives
  • Establish programs and strategies to address immediate and long term fundraising goals
  • Identify and research donor prospects to develop relationships that will increase individual, corporate, and grant funding
  • Significantly improve annual giving through the creation and implementation of fundraising plans, outreach to prospective donors, and maintenance of strong relationships with current donors
  • Provide leadership for and management of board and volunteer committees related to development activities for Seneca Family of Agencies
  • Improve development infrastructure to generate new revenue sources including use of fundraising software, donor information, communications, budgeting, business plan development, staff training and volunteer leadership
  • Oversee the development of materials and publications, such as the annual report and online marketing, that assist in stewardship and raising funds for SFA
  • Provide staff leadership in development, planning, and implementation of special events designed to raise funds Act as agency liaison to local fundraising auxiliaries and guild chapters and provide presentations on behalf of Seneca Family of Agencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years development experience for a large nonprofit organization
  • Certified Fundraising Executive designation a plus
  • Excellent computer skills including solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and Raiser’s Edge
  • Demonstrated experience in successful fundraising, major gift plans, and cultivation of individual, corporate, and foundation donor relationships
  • Supervisory and managerial experience
  • Expertise in collaborating with board members, donors and community leaders
  • Must be willing to travel between Los Angeles and Orange County on a regular basis, and to northern California as needed
