Earthjustice is the premier nonprofit environmental law organization.  We take on the biggest, most precedent-setting cases across the country.  We wield the power of law and the strength of partnership to protect people’s health; to preserve magnificent places and wildlife; to advance clean energy; and to combat climate change.  We partner with thousands of groups, supporters, individuals and communities to engage the critical environmental issues of our time, and bring about positive change. We are here because the earth needs a good lawyer.

Founded in 1971, Earthjustice has a distinguished track record of achieving significant, lasting environmental protections.  We achieve this by hiring people who share a passion for justice and a healthy environment. Our headquarters are in San Francisco with offices in Anchorage, Chicago, Juneau, Los Angeles, Tallahassee, Honolulu, New York, Philadelphia, Denver, Seattle, Bozeman, and Washington, DC.

At a time when we urgently need to reduce greenhouse emissions, the oil and gas industry is aggressively expanding fossil fuel infrastructure that generates new emissions and harms communities already hardest hit by climate disruption. Earthjustice’s Climate and Energy program seeks to confront this massive build-out. We use litigation, administrative advocacy, and partnership to advance an end to U.S. oil and gas extraction and production, and stop new infrastructure (e.g. pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and export terminals) that locks us in to decades of continued fossil fuel reliance.

The Staff Scientist will research and synthesize the environmental, climate, health, economic and social aspects of fossil fuel industry projects to help develop the factual, technical and scientific basis of our advocacy, and help the team communicate this information in an understandable and compelling way to decision-makers, clients and other audiences.

This position will be based in San Francisco or New Orleans.

  • Monitor developments, attend agency hearings and prepare and present technical comments to support administrative advocacy.
  • Collaborate with other regional office, program and department staff working on energy-related matters.

Qualifications:
