Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta (JF&CS) provides health, career and human services to support and enhance the well-being of individuals and families across all ages, faiths, cultures and lifestyles. Its more than 30 programs serve a variety of populations, including children, teens, parents and older adults. JF&CS is now seeking a Job Coach/Instructor for IndependenceWorks within our Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Program.

PURPOSE: To assist individuals with disabilities find and maintain employment in the community. To build relationships with employers throughout the community that are receptive to hiring those with a disability. The Job Coach helps determine career paths and assists the client with adapting and adjusting to the work environment and building their work skills. The ability to maintain employment schedules of clients and meet the needs of employers is key to a successful program. This position also requires development and implementation of a curriculum around life skills and job readiness skill development. To keep the daily records on clients and their daily activities and progress. Independence and professionalism is a must in this position.  Knowledge and understanding of Autism and other developmental disabilities is key to the success of the client.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage and oversee the life skills curriculum, job readiness skill instruction, employment support and on-going support services and communication to clients, families and staff.
  • Provide observation, instruction, and support to clients requiring assistance to maintain employment.
  • Create teaching tools such as task analysis, facilitated communication, organizational materials, etc.
  • Develop and implement daily and weekly curriculum based schedule of activities for participants
  • Develop and utilize a wide range of skills development curriculum opportunities
  • Plan and implement community activities and volunteering to practice what is learned in educational setting
  • Create teaching tools such as task analysis, facilitated communication, organizational materials, etc.
  • Act as liaison between employer and client. Follow-up with placed job seekers and employers to ensure retention and to encourage new opportunities with employers.
  • Advocate for client regarding benefits, increased hours, salary, responsibilities, and ensure employer is meeting FLSA requirements
  • Complete goal tracking, attendance, communication logs, progress notes, and other needed documentation.
  • Assist with development of natural supports.
  • Facilitate groups/workshops with clients.
  • Provide transportation in agency or personal vehicle.
  • Attend and participate in team and division meetings, ISP’s, HRST’s, SIS, and other training opportunities
  • Participate in all cross trainings as required by the agency.
  • Communicate with coworkers and families on client progress, issues and concerns as they arise
  • Develop and network a professional and consistently supportive rapport with on-site supervisors and potential employers.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of Employment Services Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must have sufficient knowledge of the following:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Management experience an asset
  • Strong ability to prioritize, delegate and multi-task, and to ask for help when needed
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and to be flexible
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, accepting constructive criticism and providing feedback as needed
  • General Knowledge or principles and techniques for placement of persons with disabilities in the competitive labor market
  • Knowledge of the American’s with Disabilities Act and considerable skill in public speaking and networking with professional in various fields of private industry and governmental agencies

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Education and 2 yrs. experience with developmental disabilities, or Master’s degree in social services or related field and 1 yr experience with developmental disabilities.
