About Medic

Medic Mobile is seeking a product designer to join our multidisciplinary product team that designs, tests, and builds our open-source, human-centered mobile web application. About Medic Mobile Medic Mobile’s mission is to advance good health and human flourishing for and with the hardest-to-reach communities. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we advance this mission by building and applying technology that helps health workers deliver equitable care. We envision a world in which people everywhere receive quality care from trusted neighbors, and a future where technology supports us when we act as health workers. The software that Medic Mobile has been building for the last decade enables messaging, task management, diagnostic decision support, health records, and analytics for health systems that serve over ten million people.

About Design at Medic

Since 2010, Medic Mobile has made deep investments in a thoughtful and multi-faceted human-centered design practice. We count designers among our founders, board members, and executive leadership, and every new staff person at Medic Mobile receives basic training in human-centered design. We’re committed to cultivating design talent in the countries where we support healthcare systems; we currently employ designers in Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, Nepal, and the United States.

In 2018, recognizing the need for shared tools and infrastructure, Medic Mobile and our partners launched the Community Health Toolkit (CHT). The CHT is an open source project for community health, and it includes software frameworks and applications, resources and guides to help build with and use the tools, and spaces for community collaboration and support. We now seek to hire a Product Designer who can play a leading role in this community.

Product Designer

As Medic’s Product Designer, you will help bring the insights from our human-centered field work into an intuitive mobile web interface. You will:

  1. Conduct, and support others as they conduct user research to inform product design
  2. Build and maintain a design system to guide the features and apps built by our community of developers
  3. Support teammates with design reviews as they build prototypes and conduct acceptance testing

At Medic, creative solutions to solve complex problems are the norm. We work in environments with extreme constraints and are inspired by how technology can bridge gaps and reinvent workflows. We’re also a team of realists and shape our tools based on what is most useful and sustainable for our users and partners. Some of our users have never used a touchscreen before; others have several of their own devices. Many of our users work in low-connectivity environments. As a Product Designer, you’ll be inspired to create intuitive interfaces to help health workers feel supported, informed, and connected to their peers, managers, and patients.

You’ll be joining a distributed product team and should be comfortable working independently and collaborating in virtual space.
