Director of Development, Institute of Precision Health

With a century of achievements and a commitment to serving the greater good, UCLA is dedicated to creating change to make a better world. Fueled by innovation, the UCLA Institute for Precision Health (IPH), along with the UCLA Department of Human Genetics (Department), is empowering healthier lives through an ability to predict and prevent disease. The Institute is currently seeking an inaugural Director of Development that will be instrumental in establishing long-range fundraising strategies to attract private support for the IPH and Department. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise the funds that play a vital role in creating new opportunities for advances in discovery and patient care.

The Director, in collaboration with the Executive Director of Development, Health Sciences and academic leadership in the IPH/Department will develop sophisticated strategies for successful identification, cultivation and solicitation of annual and major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations and will personally cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and prospects. As part of program management, this individual will develop annual operating plans and evaluate progress in achieving goals. The Director will meet with faculty to gain knowledge of their research interests and expertise to clearly and succinctly translate research to potential donors and represent the IPH/Department to the broader community.

The ideal candidate will have five or more years of progressively responsible experience in major gift fundraising in higher education, with a proven track record in gifts solicited and closed and development management, preferably in an academic medical school setting. A team leader and gifted communicator, the Director will engage donors, volunteers, academic leaders, faculty and staff in the accomplishment of fundraising goals. Experienced in diverse academic research topics, with excellent communication skills, the Director will have outstanding organizational skills to prioritize assignments on deadline and effectively navigate a complex organization. This position will travel and work evenings and weekends as required.
