AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Mental Health America of Georgia (MHA of GA) is a small non-profit organization invested in mental wellness in vulnerable populations.  MHA of GA seeks to enhance the mental health and wellness of Georgians through education, advocacy, and outreach.

LEAP ADVISORS DESCRIPTION

Leadership Empowerment and Access Program (LEAP) is a youth leadership and professional development program for youth 16-26 at risk of or diagnosed with a behavioral health disorder. By working from an individualized life plan, LEAP Advisors are responsible for providing guidance, education and support to young people in determining the course of their life and to plan goals about education, vocation, professional development, self-advocacy as well as other life skills.  The Advisors will provide the strategies to help young people to achieve their goals by improving actions necessary to take control of their future.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a caseload of 15-20 youth and/or young adults for up to 6 months.
  • Assesses the need of assigned young person related to life skills via program tools and procedures
  • Develop and implement plans with measurable goals and objectives based on the development tools, with priority goals in all aspects of life skills.
  • Assist young people with planning, preparing, and executing a weekly schedule of activities, providing life-long learning skills and learning experiences
  • Assist young people with job searches, creating resumes, mock interviews, soft skills, training, etc.
  • Teach and reinforce thoughtful decision making, professionalism in work tasks and employment
  • Make necessary connections to meet health, well-being, education, mental health, employment and future planning needs
  • Meet regularly with youth to ensure progress and community engagement
  • Provide and/or assist with transportation as needed
  • Serve as liaison between MHAG and all necessary community resource entities
  • Provide positive role-modeling to youth by promoting self-esteem, healthy boundaries and positive relationships

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours (nights and weekends) as needed
  • Knowledgeable about mental health and/or substance abuse
  • Experience working with young adults with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.
  • Strong and effective oral, written, graphic, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to organize and work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to work independently.
  • Success at managing a wide array of tasks and projects and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and various Social Media platforms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, but not limited to sociology, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, education, divinity or public health administration.
  • Seven (7) years or more of life experience and working in social service, education, health care or related.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults between the ages of 16-26

Licensures & Certifications

Required: Valid Driver’s license, proof of acceptable levels of automobile insurance, and a clean driving record provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Required: Must be able to obtain CPR certification within first 30 days of employment.

Required: Must be able to successfully pass a FBI fingerprint background check
