People For the American Way (PFAW) is a nationwide advocacy organization that mobilizes its members and activists to fight for public policies that reflect the values of freedom, fairness, and equal opportunity; to champion constitutional protections and civil rights.

PFAW’s Political Department focuses on electoral politics, political advocacy efforts and voter education. The department runs the Next Up Victory Fund program which helps young progressives win state and local offices across the country. The Political Department’s Latinos Vote! program builds on our proven record of producing paid and earned media campaigns to hold Republicans accountable for their anti-immigrant, anti-Latino policies and rhetoric. The Political Research Manager will primarily manage candidate and electoral research for the Next Up Victory Fund and PFAW’s federal PAC, the Voters Alliance.

This position reports to the Political Director and is located in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

 

·        Manage all candidate and electoral research for the Political Department, particularly for the Next Up Victory Fund and including the Voters Alliance PAC

·        Daily management of political staffers and oversight of candidate and electoral research work

·        Review and edit research documents and emails to ensure that they are thorough and accurate

·        Manage spreadsheet tracker of candidates and races, including information about the candidate and their race, contact information, and the status of their endorsement

·        Manage candidate request tracker and follow up on candidate requests with related departmental teams

·        Point on spreadsheets and quality management

·        Maintain electoral calendar and coordinate political research work to meet deadlines corresponding with election dates and priorities

·        Organize research workflow and documents to ensure a streamlined process

·        Supervise and manage political interns, including interviewing, hiring, and assignment of work

·        Assist in running and participating in internal meetings, including managing staff on note taking and follow up items

·        Point on gathering available vote numbers and polling research

·        Assist in overall department management of staff and processes as assigned

·        Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

 

·        5 years of people management experience 

·        5 years of project management experience

·        Strong political acumen

·        Excellent oral and written communications skills

·        Excellent ability to review, edit, and proofread others’ work

·        Strong attention to detail and thoroughness

·        Highly organized

·        Proficiency in using Excel spreadsheets, online research tools and MS Office

·        Ability to understand polling and voter demographic data

·        Ability to work under multiple deadlines and flexibility to respond to changing priorities

·        Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
