VOLUNTEER AND CHURCH SUPPORT MANAGER

Buckhead Christian Ministry has an immediate opening for a full-time Volunteer and Church Support Manager to provide professional assistance to thirty area churches helping community members in need. BCM is a faith-based non-profit whose mission is to prevent hunger and homelessness for people facing life-changing events such as job loss, a reduction in work hours or a medical problem. BCM provides emergency and housing assistance and life-skills education with special emphasis on the needs of low-income workers.

The Volunteer and Church Support Manager strengthens BCM’s support services to its partners in ministry by growing and facilitating BCM’s relationships with Atlanta social services agencies, serving as a resource to our church partners, providing customized guidance for churches seeking to assist community members in need, and motivating and managing individuals and groups of volunteers.

The successful candidate will be 100% committed to BCM’s mission and able to effectively communicate that mission with a broad range of people. S/he will serve as a critical link between our volunteer base, church partners and the network of community resources available in Atlanta.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and do so in collaboration with thirty churches
  • Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis to inform and engage churches and volunteers
  • High degree of integrity, initiative, and resilience
  • Prior experience with organizing and facilitating community resources and building community partnerships
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with churches, liaisons, and volunteers via telephone and in person
  • Passion for working with volunteers, churches, and social services agencies  
  • Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to engage churches and volunteers to build long-term relationships for the benefit of the organization
  • Experience working with the working poor, hungry, and homeless

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and resource for BCM’s church partners for social services support, trainings and client referrals
  • Plan and execute meetings/trainings with volunteers and church/community liaisons and other key as needed
  • Speak to churches and community groups regarding community resources and tools for people experiencing homelessness or in crisis
  • Work closely with the Volunteer and Community Relations Director to implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward partner churches
  • Conduct research and site-visits with local Atlanta social service agencies to obtain accurate information on resources and services offered to the community
  • Respond immediately to church requests for support in dealing with individuals and families in need
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, placing and training of new volunteers
  • Manage, maintain and ensure the accuracy of records in a volunteer management database
  • Ensure all communications materials, both printed and digital, are effective and reflect a high-degree of quality and accuracy at all times

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S.W. preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of non-profit social work experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with volunteers and the general public and business community on behalf of an organization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, volunteer databases (VolunteerHub experience preferred)

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift at least 20lbs
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Excellent oral presentation skills

COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position
