Emergency Assistance Program Coordinator

Buckhead Christian Ministry has an immediate opening for a part-time (30-32 hours a week) social worker to serve as an Emergency Assistance Program coordinator.  BCM is a faith-based non-profit whose mission is to prevent hunger and homelessness for people facing life-changing events such as job loss, a reduction in work hours or a medical problem. BCM annually serves more than 5,000 people throughout Atlanta Georgia.

The Program Coordinator is part of a team addressing BCM’s mission by providing services that help people meet immediate needs and lead to financial stability. As such, the Coordinator will work alongside and support a group of dedicated volunteers serving clients seeking help through BCM’s Emergency Assistance Program. 

The successful candidate will be 100% committed to the mission of BCM and able to communicate that mission to a broad range of people. S/he should be able to demonstrate an ability to find flexible and creative solutions for clients, while adhering to BCM program policies and procedures.  S/he should have a passion for working with volunteers and an ability to help others feel valued and successful in their work.  S/he should be a team player, highly reliable, attentive to details, and able to multi-task. Working with a diverse base of clients and volunteers, the successful candidate must be both tolerant and patient.


Emergency Assistance Program Coordinator will conduct and supervise client intake for non-financial services (food clothing, new worker’s support), implement client choice, maintain client files and agency records according to agency procedure. Ensure Helpline and Client Welcome Center services are provided according to procedure. Provide initial and on-going training for volunteers (hospitality, intake, helpline and data entry) regarding emergency assistance program procedures. Ensure there are adequate volunteers per shift, assist volunteers with answering questions, problem solving and provide encouragement, support, and constructive feedback on volunteers’ performance.


Required Qualifications:  1) Undergraduate degree with major study in social work or human services, MSW preferred. 2) Fluent in Spanish preferred. 3) two years of professional experience in a social work/human services. 4) Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications (Microsoft Word and Excel). 5) Experience working with or supervising volunteers.
