Title: Bilingual Legal Assistant
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required
Location: Atlanta, GA
Type: Full-Time
The Georgia Asylum & Immigration Network (GAIN), a nonprofit organization with a mission of providing free immigration legal services to victims of crime and persecution, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to support the agency’s Victims of Violence (VOV) Program – which assists victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault in their immigration matters.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative support to the Legal Director and Staff Attorneys at GAIN
- Drafting and preparing forms and correspondence to be submitted to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
- Serving as initial point of contact for client intakes and case referrals
- Maintaining communication with clients and pro bono volunteers
- Monitoring and supporting the gathering of evidence for GAIN cases
- Preparing client correspondence
- Filing, archiving, and data entry
- Other duties as assigned
- Light travel may be required
Additional Qualifications
This position requires a very high level of organization, a strong work ethic, intuition, the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, and meticulous attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Applicant should also be able to represent GAIN in communicating professionally with clients and with volunteer attorneys. Applicant should be a fast learner and possess strong computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and understanding of database administration. Office experience preferred. Applicant must be flexible, proactive, and fluent in Spanish (oral & written).
