Description & Responsibilities

Based in Ceres’ Boston office, the Senior Associate, Development is responsible for the management of all vital operations related to fundraising efforts including gift processing, database maintenance and functionality improvement, reporting and analytics, and software system integration. The senior associate is the key liaison with many internal teams and works closely with other development staff in Boston and San Francisco. This role drives annual fund work. He/she reports to the Director, Development. Ceres is a rapidly expanding organization and this is an exciting opportunity to help create successful operations, donor growth and cross-team collaborations.

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Development Operations

  • Liaise directly with the Information Systems (IS) team, the systems review committee, the finance department and digital and print vendors.
  • Oversee the Development Assistant’s work related to operations and annual fund activities including, but not limited to, database gift and donor information entry, acknowledgement letter processing and reconciliation process between finance and development systems.
  • Work with the IS team to develop and maintain performance reports and dashboards on Salesforce for individual giving such as campaign results, month-over-month comparisons and analysis of the Ceres 1000 network of donors that give $1,000 or more.
  • Run queries, reports and complex data pulls within Salesforce built on sound logic and institutional knowledge.
  • Partner with Development Assistant on work related to operations and annual fund activities.
  • Create, update and maintain policies and procedures for all development database systems and strive to ensure their implementations.
  • Assist with the development department budget management.

Digital Communications and Marketing

  • Work with the Comms and Marketing team and outside vendors to build the digital community and to maximize the philanthropic potential of Ceres’ digital community.
  • Liaise directly with Comms and Marketing team for projects like website updates, Ceres Works donor newsletter, development collateral and other print and digital marketing materials.
  • Provide input on the master email schedule that is maintained by the Comms and Marketing team.

Annual Fund

  • Work with external vendors to execute annual fund cultivation and solicitation activities for direct mail.
  • Manage and implement the stewardship program for annual fund donors.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement new fundraising forms and practices.

Events

  • As part of cross-department collaborations, evaluate and implement fundraising and cultivation event platforms.
  • Assistant development and events staff with event platform maintenance and event evaluation. 

Other

  • Serve on cross-departmental teams as needed.
  • Manage specific event related tasks, as needed, for Ceres-wide major events such as Anniversary Galas and the annual Conference and biennial Investor Summit
  • Assist with the selection process and training of Development interns as needed.
  • Evaluate charity watchdog and rating groups and manage organizational application and profile.

Qualifications

  • Four to five years or more of work experience, demonstrating superior operations skill set.
  • Proficient at using organizational databases including entering complex data, learning new ways to use the system, and understanding how to pull reports and translate data for senior staff to use.  
  • Knowledge of Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack a plus.
  • Desire to for data-driven results.
  • Ability and confidence to ensure staff adhere to established guidelines.
  • Strong technical curiosity and a firm believer in the importance of learning.
  • Successful record of organizing multiple projects, delivering on time, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, strong initiative and motivation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to think on one’s feet.
  • Experience with fundraising departments and specifically annual fund management, both at a mission-driven organization, a plus.
  • Experience with digital strategies used to acquire and steward donors, a plus.
  • Knowledge of the sustainability space, a plus.
