POSITION TITLE (dual role):

Chief Operating Officer, MovementForward, Inc. (MFI) and
Executive Director, One Congregation One Precinct (OneCOP), an initiative of MovementForward, Inc.

The Chief Operating Officer has overall operational responsibility for MovementForward, Inc.’s staffing, initiatives, legal and fiscal compliance, and the effective execution of its mission. She or he will develop and maintain deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, and business plans. The Chief Operating Officer serves as the organization's day-to- day operational leader, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. As Executive Director of the OneCOP initiative, she or he will also be responsible for the development, execution, monitoring and reporting of all operational and programmatic components of the OneCOP initiative, MFI’s signature program. The Executive Director will work with the CEO of MFI, who also serves as the Lead Organizer of OneCOP, to ensure that all programmatic objectives are met and that OneCOP functions synergistically within the overall MFI portfolio of initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer of MovementForward, Inc.:

● Serve as the secretary of the corporation and the organization’s primary staff liaison to the board of directors, board of councilors, and other governance and advisory bodies. The COO will also act as the internal thought leader and primary point of contact for all governance and organizational development related matters.
o Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Communicate effectively with directors and councilors by providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the directors and councilors to function properly and to make informed decisions.
o Ensure that that the board, through the CEO and chairperson of the board of directors, is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.
o Promote active and broad participation by directors, councilors, and advisory board members in all areas of the organization's work.
● Ensure operational excellence, rigorous evaluation of programs, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; manage timelines and resources needed to achieve the organization's strategic goals.
● Serve as the organization’s chief of staff with ultimate responsibility for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, including: paid staff, consultants, and volunteers. Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place. Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the organization.
o Develop and integrate staffing programs designed to attract and retain the highest caliber of talent.
o Manage employees and train them in the latest leadership and technical skills to best serve our clients.
● Managing the day-to-day operations of the organization in a manner that is in keeping with the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the positive financial position of the organization.
● Along with appropriate development & communications staff, lead MovementForward’s fundraising to cultivate and solicit major donors, foundations, corporations and government agencies for MovementForward and to significantly increase contributions.
o Accompany the Chief Executive Officer to high-level partnership and fund development meetings, providing thought leadership and insight from the operational domain;
o Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer, development staff, and members of the boards of directors and councilors, to identify and cultivate corporate, foundation, government, and individual gifts, grants, and contracts with particular attention to the associated administrative management and execution of
grants and contracts (applications, grants management, reporting, renewal, etc.);
o Represent MovementForward, Inc. throughout the state and nationally to raise its profile and visibility to
funders, partners, policymakers, and the public.
• Serve as emergency on-call contact after hours and on weekends in case of rapid response needs.
• Work closely with the MovementForward Board of Directors to support the efforts of MFI in continuing the
development of a strong national organization through fundraising, program development, and advocacy.
• Work closely with, support and provide guidance to MFI partners to expand MovementForward’s capacity for
grassroots activism.
• Continuously seek out ways to engage diverse constituencies in MFI initiatives.
• Collaborate with our CEO on strategic planning (five-and ten-year plans) to ensure corporate growth,
sustainability, and effectiveness.


Responsibilities as Executive Director of One Congregation One Precinct (OneCOP), an initiative of MovementForward, Inc.:
● Provide senior leadership and oversight for all projects, programs, partnerships, relationships, and special events associated with the OneCOP initiative.
● Work collaboratively with the CEO/Lead Organizer to strategically identify and prioritize opportunities for partnerships, fundraising and friendraising, program expansion, and sustainability;
● Recruit, hire, develop and manage all staff and consultants for the initiative;
● Initiate and conduct partnership planning with law enforcement executives and faith leaders. Identify key
agencies and leadership. Access and learn about their goals and needs, persuasively present opportunities to partner specific congregations with first responders. Lead, with Partnerships Specialists, the actual implementation of the initiative;
● Design the national expansion and complete the strategic business planning process for the program expansion into new markets, including: building partnerships in new markets; and establishing relationships with the funders, political leadership and community stakeholders at each expansion site.
● Communicate program objectives and accomplishments to key stakeholders with an emphasis on the successes of the OneCOP initiative in specific communities as well as implications for regional and national replication.
● Ensure effective systems to track progress, and to regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure
successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
● Perform trainings and deliver other presentations to our public and private partners; and
● Other appropriate duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience:


• College degree in business administration, management, non-profit leadership, public policy, law or related field required. Advanced degree strongly preferred.
• 5-10 years’ progressively significant professional experience, to include 3-5 years at a management level within an organization similar in field, size and/or scope.

* Experience managing grants and/or contracts.
• Strong leadership bearing with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong business and management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, donors, and potential partners a must.
• Proven success in fundraising, with particular expertise cultivating and managing relationships with major
donors, foundations, corporations, and government funders.
• Seasoned organizational leader with an array of experience in human and civil rights, public policy development
and advocacy, public/political/policy campaigns, lobbying, and/or involvement in electoral politics.
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex, matrixed organization—strong ability to influence and persuade
others required.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, judgment, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and build coalitions with a
wide range of individuals and organizations at the local, regional, and national levels.
• Tech-savvy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, budgeting systems and donor databases.
Comfort with and interest in leveraging technology to maximize the organization’s impact and network engagement.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing the full lifecycle of multiple complex projects from ideation to successful implementation, including: meeting financial goals, project deadlines, and coordinating the work of key staff and partners.
• Excellent and persuasive verbal and written communication skills to effectively represent MovementForward, including substantial public speaking experience.
• Knowledge and appreciation of, as well as connection to, the nonviolent civil and human rights leadership linage in the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that MFI represents.
• Willingness and ability to travel routinely throughout the state of Georgia, and nationally, as required.
• A strong commitment to the mission, values, and programs of MovementForward and its portfolio of initiatives.
