Lead Teacher, Extended Day

We are seeking an experienced part-time Lead Teacher, Extended Day to start immediately.  These positions are part-time and the hours are Monday – Thursday from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. 

The Discovery Extended Day Program at The Children’s School is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn and grow.  A successful candidate in this role would be expected to actively engage with their students on a daily basis.

Day to day, an Extended Day teacher will:

  • Work with EDSL administration to develop and execute curriculum to achieve the learning objectives in the classroom with directives tied to the vision of the program 
  • Plan and carry out daily activities
  • Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children
  • Play a meaningful, active, and engaged role in each student’s daily school life
  • Establish and maintain a creative, self-directed and collaborative learning environment
  • Communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in teaching partnerships
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the overall childcare program

Basic Qualifications

  • High School degree and/or current college student
  • Applicable experience working with children
  • Be child-centered
  • Possess the following characteristics:

    • Collaboration-mindedness, empathy, self-awareness and reflection
    • Intrinsic motivation, initiative and high standards

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort in the use of digital technology and media 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or two years college equivalency 
  • Three (3) years of experience teaching children in a classroom setting
  • Passion for and experience in the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion
