About the Little by Little School Readiness Program

The evidence–based Little by Little School Readiness Program engages low-income families and fosters early literacy skills to improve school success for children participating in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program. The Little by Little Program is a program of Heluna Health, funded by First 5 LA and serves over 60,000 children and parents in Los Angeles County and over 70,000 children and parents nationally each year. Position Summary

This position is responsible for the Little by Little Program’s communications and marketing activities, brand awareness, website content management, social media content management, email marketing, collateral materials, events, community engagement, and public relations outreach to support the sustainability efforts for the Little by Little Program. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional interested in elevating the awareness and scalability of the Little by Little Program. 
The Communications & Marketing Manager is responsible for executing a broad range of communications and marketing activities for the Little by Little School Readiness Program. The Communications & Marketing Manager will support the Director of Advancement and the Director of Marketing and Communications in executing the Little by Little Program stakeholder engagement and communications strategy across channels and platforms. 
The individual will work collaboratively with both directors to elevate the Little by Little Program’s brand awareness; increase its visibility in California and nationally; reach and engage new supporters; and assist in building the foundation to create long-term sustainability for the Little by Little School Readiness Program. A good fit for this position is someone who is proactive, organized, flexible, and passionate about social impact communications. 

Reporting Structure

The Communications & Marketing Manager reports to Director of Marketing and Communications for Heluna Health with a dotted line the Director of Advancement. This position can expect joint supervision meetings to ensure benchmarks are being met. 
Essential Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications Production

  • Content creation: work with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Advancement to develop and manage an editorial calendar; create, schedule, and distribute compelling content that provides value to our target audiences across social media, websites, email, and other channels.
  • Social media content and engagement: actively track and manage the Little by Little Program’s social media profiles to engage with donors and followers and attract new audiences.
  • Website management: manage Little by Little Program website updates through Wordpress CMS and implement strategies that increase website traffic and conversions.
  • Design support: create and update basic branded social media graphics, flyers, email templates, and other pieces using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design tools.
  • Press coordination: research relevant press contacts, maintain an active press list, support press material production, and coordinate media outreach and corporate communications activities.
  • Collateral production: support copy editing, contribute to content development, source imagery, manage printing and shipping, and coordinate with vendors to produce collateral pieces, materials, and the Little by Little Program’s annual report.
  • Email marketing: manage opt-in and unsubscribe lists, develop email campaign and newsletter templates, draft and manage email content, testing, and sending.
  • Event management: serve as key lead for Little by Little Program-related events, manage event deadlines and deliverables.
  • Collateral development: order and maintain inventory of Little by Little Program promotional items, support presentation design and production, and support event-specific projects, as needed
  • Paid advertising: support setup and tracking of Google Adwords, LinkedIn ads, Facebook ads, Twitter ads, and other online and print advertising campaigns.
  • Trends and best practices: regularly seek opportunities to learn and adapt to current and upcoming industry trends and best practices.
  • Tracking and reporting: capture and analyze Little by Little Program’s social media, email, website, and donor and prospective donor data/metrics, insights, trends, and best practices.
  • Asset management: maintain collateral inventory, marketing assets, and image library.

Qualifications

  • Proven skills across marketing disciplines including, donor engagement, event management, content creation, digital marketing, social media, and brand management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proven success in presenting ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, MailChimp, Salesforce, WordPress, Canva, Google Analytics, and G Suite.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities under tight deadlines with an outcomes-oriented approach.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field; OR eight years of equivalent experience without a post-secondary education degree.
  • 3-5 years of marketing and communications experience, preferably in the social impact field.
