Job Title: Early Head Start Professional Development Specialist                 

Department:  Child Care Resource and Referral

Salary: Based on experience – Salaried, Exempt

Position Summary: The Professional Development Specialist will plan and deliver face-to-face professional development for the EHS-CCP centers and family child care learning homes to support the school readiness goals for infants and toddlers.  He/She will provide technical assistance, coaching, and training to the EHS-CCP staff. The Professional Development Specialist will develop training sessions approved by Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Training Approval System.  He/she will work as a member of the EHS CCP team in a cross-discipline approach to assure that all children receive high quality, comprehensive services that meet their needs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, develop, and implement professional development opportunities for staff based on individual, site, and program level data.
  2. Assure that needed resources, materials and technical assistance are available to assist staff in the provision of high quality services.
  3. Support and supervise coaching staff in providing ongoing observations and feedback to classroom staff.
  4. Analyze and aggregate multiple sources of data and completes reports (i.e. ITERS, TPOT/TPITOS, accreditation, quality rated and head start reviews, Teaching Strategies Gold) to identify professional development needs and ensure progress toward the EHS CCP school readiness goals.
  5. Complete reports
  6. Develops and facilitates professional development approved by the DECAL training approval system.
  7. Participate in site visits, classrooms observations, and work groups to assess program needs and planning strategies for system/process improvement and/or development of early childhood education, disabilities, and mental health.
  8. Provide guidance and support to staff in the implementation of the Creative Curriculum, individualization plans, and Teaching Strategies Gold ongoing child assessment.
  9. Assist with the coordination of the annual program self-assessment and the follow-up reporting
  10. Coordinate with the site directors, curriculum manger, family support manager in developing individual professional development plans.
  11. Assist with the development and maintaining written policies and procedures that comply with Head Start Performance Standards.
  12. Support and assist site events and site based family activity events as requested.
  13. Works with the other specialists to ensure program compliance with codes of all state and local licensing agencies and grant requirements.
  14. Work in collaboration with clerical and data tracking staff to ensure that professional development services are tracked and accounted for in Child Plus and on files.
  15. Ensure confidentiality of employee, parent, and child information that is received and managed.
  16. Accept other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in early childhood education, social science, community service, business or public administration
  • DECAL approved trainer, intermediate and advanced
  • Minimum of four years of experience in an early childhood setting serving infants and toddlers, Head Start and/or Early Head Start preferable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative partnerships and work on a team
  • Demonstrated track record working and supporting the needs of low-income families and young children
  • Coaching or PLC training.

  • Must have knowledge and experience in areas that include theories and principles of child development, adult learning, teaching strategies, and the components of a high quality early learning environment.
  • Have an understanding and knowledge of the Family Child Care standards, Child Care standards, Head Start Program Performance Standards and regulations, teaching strategies, and components of a high quality early learning environment.
  • Knowledge of community-based social service organizations and agencies
  • Ability to interact effectively with Family Child Care providers, center staff, parents, children, staff, and the public in a multi-ethnic environment
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the communities and must be able to effectively communicate with children and families of the community
  • Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License and have access to an insured motor vehicle
  • Must be willing to work outside of traditional work hours (evenings/weekends)
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and sit on the floor and interact with children
  • Training, education or experience may be substituted for certain minimum qualifications
