About Together Education

Together Education is a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs launch high-impact, scalable educational initiatives that support all students in accessing a high-quality education and attaining a choice-filled life.  We provide ongoing support to this interconnected ecosystem of education organizations, allowing them to learn faster and have greater impact together.

Our team has launched several high-impact education nonprofit organizations, including Relay Graduate School of Education.  Currently, we incubate and operate five main programs – Cooperman College Scholars, a college scholarship program targeting high-potential, underrepresented students from Essex County, NJ; nXu, an innovative program working with diverse groups of high school students to help them articulate and pursue their life purpose; 1World, a program supporting international non-profit organizations in launching and leading high-performing networks of schools; TLAC Online, an online teacher training video program; and Relay Lab Schools, a new program partnering with public school districts to turn around their lowest-performing schools.

About the Team

The TE central team provides strategic advisory services and back office services (HR, operations and finance services) to all of our programs.  We are the behind-the-scenes booster that helps entrepreneurs take their vision from concept to reality, ensuring they can spend as much time focused on their program as possible. The TE team has expanded over 30% in the past year and we are looking to fill a newly created role of Accountant.

About the Role

We’re looking for entrepreneurial finance and operations experts (or enthusiasts looking to become experts) who are excited to join a small, scrappy team dedicated to supporting a variety of education-focused programs. This role would be ideal for someone who relishes accuracy, organization, and a high attention to detail; loves reconciling and tying data; and is eager to do so in a mission-oriented start-up environment.

Reporting to TE’s Director of Finance, the Accountant will execute a wide array of activities, including:

  • Accounting & Bookkeeping – enter and track A/P and A/R transactions, bank reconciliations, expense reimbursements, corporate card transactions
  • Payroll – process semi-monthly payroll, ensure accuracy of payroll data entered into the accounting system, reconcile payroll taxes and deductions quarterly
  • Financial Reporting & Audit – close books monthly, prepare reconciliations, support monthly reporting activities, support preparation of schedules for annual audit
  • Financial Records Management – ensure that all financial and accounting data is up to date and accurate at all times, maintain secure and organized recordkeeping systems at all times
  • Tackling Other Start-Up Activities – other finance and accounting-related duties as required and assigned; we are a start-up supporting start-ups, so new projects will always come up!

 Qualifications

  • BA, preferably with a quantitative focus
  • 1-4 years of accounting or finance experience, or related internship experience at a non-profit or start-up organization – if you don’t have specifically relevant experience, then a basic functional knowledge of accounting principles plus an enthusiasm for learning will help
  • Exceptional attention to detail - you thrive on being thorough, accurate and precise in all you do
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to keep track of all tasks big and small
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a service-oriented mentality - this role requires a lot of communication with colleagues
  • Proactive, pragmatic, and resourceful problem solver – you enjoy trying to figure things out and when in doubt, you Google it or ask an expert!
  • Ability to work efficiently, intensely, and within an entrepreneurial environment
  • Proficiency with Excel and a willingness to become a power user
  • A passion to join a mission-driven organization
