Part-Time Field Organizer

 

Women on the Rise is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Part-Time Field Organizer to build membership base of formerly incarcerated and currently incarcerated women and assist in programmatic developments that work to divest from jails and prisons and invest in our community!

WHO WE ARE

Women on the Rise is a grassroots organization led by women of color targeted and/or impacted by the criminal “legal” system. Women on the Rise works to educate, heal, and empower ourselves and communities to demand justice, dignity, and liberation for all. Women on the Rise is a project of the Racial Justice Action Center.

A major campaign includes the Reimagining of the Atlanta City Detention Center, formerly known as the Communities Over Cages, dedicated to divesting from Atlanta’s criminal justice system and investing in community safety by reallocating the $32.6 million spent to operate systems that criminalize our communities.

THE POSITION

The Field Organizer will serve as a member of a team responsible for community based outreach and engagement, working with and gathering input from formerly incarcerated people, families who live in neighborhoods most impacted by crime and the criminal justice system including but not limited to Adamsville, Pittsburgh, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, the Bluff, the West End, etc.

The Field Organizer will engage youth, Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU’s), and local businesses. The Organizer will building a core membership base to 100 formerly incarcerated women and 25 incarcerated women rising.

The organizer will plan and facilitate neighborhood-based and formerly incarcerated people led meetings, support groups, Town Hall meetings and workshops.

The Organizer will report to Women on the Rise’s Executive Director and work closely with all WoR Staff, Harriet’s Daughters (our formerly incarcerated women leadership body), and all stakeholders.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A passion for outreach and a love for talking to new people every day!
  • Community outreach and facilitation experience
  • Experience working with those most impacted by the criminal legal system
  • Team oriented and highly accountable to the team and the community
  • A passion for divesting from jails and the criminal legal system and shifting resources to community-based supports and services
  • Formerly Incarcerated/Impacted by criminal legal systems
  • Knowledge of Atlanta’s neighborhoods and communities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, trainings, and develop partnerships across a wide and diverse array of stakeholders
