Summary:

The Mid-level Giving Officer is responsible for managing and stewarding a portfolio of foundation, corporation and individual donors to the San Francisco SPCA.

This person works with the Development team and across the organization to build donor engagement and lifetime value among. As a key member of the fundraising team, this position champions stewardship and renewal initiatives with foundations, corporations, major donors, and the Society’s key leaders and stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Functions:

Major and Mid-Level Gifts (60%)

  • Oversee stewardship and year-round touches for mid-level donors (those who give $1000-$5000 annually)
  • Manage the donor stewardship process for mid-level and major donors (all who give more than $1000 annually)
  • Work with the Individual Gifts Manager and direct mail firm to Identify donor candidates for upgraded solicitations, develop strategies to move mid-level donors into larger gifts and to manage materials, messaging, and schedules for major donor appeals
  • Utilize systems and software to identify, track, cultivate and steward donors; Evaluate and analyze campaign and appeal results to plan for high-impact, future appeals and/or cultivation activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with prospects and donors using fundraising software. Work with Database Administrator for optimized moves management processes and strategies based on best practices and departmental needs
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop innovative collateral materials, campaigns, and giving opportunities
  • Represent the SF SPCA and help lead volunteers and community supporters at meetings, special events, promotions, and community functions
  • Maximize facility tour experiences for donors and corporate groups

Foundations and Corporate Grants (25%)

  • Lead outreach, cultivation, and stewardship of a small portfolio of corporate and foundation partners. Develop relationships with foundations and corporate grant makers
  • Manage grants calendar and development assistant to track and respond to recurring grants requests to achieve foundation and corporate fundraising goals
  • Research, write, and organize compelling grant proposals for corporate and foundation funders with required attachments including program budgets. Supervise development assistant in submitting grant applications and reports on online platforms and via mail
  • Coordinate and collaborate with program staff and Society leadership on content, budgets, and outcomes. Work with program and/or project staff to collect outcome data on funded and high-priority programs; Build relationships and trust across departments to enhance communication around grants. Serve as a content expert on grant-funded projects
  • Submit timely grant reports and conduct funder stewardship activities, including site visits, letters, emails and phone calls. Present about grant-funded programs to staff and funders when possible/needed, including in-person presentations at foundation and corporate offices
  • Design and execute efficient systems for grants management beginning with notification of awards. Work closely with the Database Administrator and Development Assistants to maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge

Oversee Administrative and Grant Support Tasks (15%)

  • Conduct project management and administrative tasks for major giving program and development department (i.e. weekly thank you note assignments, major donor appeals - schedule and logistics)
  • Supervise writing and submission of compelling grant applications packages for grants below $5,000 (i.e. Safeway-Albertsons, Capital Group, Doris Day Foundation, Maddie’s Fund small grants)
  • Oversee administrative portion of family foundation giving
  • Lead grant prospecting and foundation research to identify appropriate foundation and corporate funding opportunities for new and established programs. Maintain and update shared document and RE records with new information

  • Oversee updates on grant attachments such as board lists, annual outcomes, documents with general history, and mission/vision statement

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to the Major Gift Officer

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office setting within an animal shelter and care facility
  • Regularly sits at a computer station
  • Frequently lifts, carries and positions supplies and records weighing up to 30 lbs. when moving supplies
  • Regularly moves about the campus to coordinate work
  • Occasional weekend and evening work
  • Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available

Education and Experience (Required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2-3 years of development experience required: focus on stewardship, appeals, and grants management
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge database preferred but not required
  • Excellent computer skills, including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • High proficiency with MS Office, Outlook, Word, and especially Excel

The salary for this position depends on the length and breadth of experience.
