Education Coordinator (part-time: 20 hours a week)

Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta, GA is seeking an Education Coordinator to oversee the curriculum and teachers for our supplementary Jewish education program. The program is held primarily on Sundays, plus once-a-month on Shabbat, and provides opportunities to work with pre-school through high school age children.  In addition to curriculum implementation, the Education Coordinator will support the Director of Youth & Family Engagement with congregation wide programs.

This position is 20 hours a week and reports to the Director of Youth & Family Engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement curriculum for Kesher@AA, our weekly supplementary education program
  • Assist teachers with lesson plan ideas and help with all school programs
  • Assist with designing and implementing Shabbat and Holiday programming for children and families
  • Oversee, supervise, and teach an innovative, leveled Hebrew program. 
  • Manage curriculum for Post B’nai Mitzvah Education Programs; TAAglit (7th-9th Grade) and AAtid (10th – 12th Grade)
  • Collaborate with the education committee, professional staff, and volunteers to foster quality interactions with students, parents, congregants, and others affiliated with the synagogue
  • Responsible for supply procurement and supply organization for all programs  
  • Serve as the “number two” at all religious school sessions and programs
  • Assist in the implementation of holiday programs including (but not limited to) high holy day children’s programming and services
  • Responsible for hiring substitute teachers for religious school and managing a list of dependable substitutes
  • Provide administrative support for the religious school office
  • Coordinate staff and educators for the supplementary education programs - Kesher (Pre-k thru 6th grade), TAAglit Atzmi (7th - 9th grade) and AATID (10th – 12th grade).
  • With the aid of education committee (as needed), hire and evaluate teachers and program associates to implement learning and program experiences. 
  • Act as a staff liaison to the educational committee and assist in choosing and implementing curriculum for supplementary education program.
  • Manage databases regarding contact information, registration, payment, student information, etc.

Qualifications

  • Experienced in Jewish education with a knowledge of, and comfort with, Jewish texts
  • Bachelor’s degree required; masters preferred
  • 3+ experience working with children
  • Hebrew language knowledge preferred
  • Experience teaching or working in a school environment preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Strong communication and prioritization skills
  • Ability to engage children and parents in their Jewish learning
  • Knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office required
