Position Description: This is a national service opportunity with AmeriCorps.
City of Roswell has received an AmeriCorps grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support nonprofit partners Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA and STAR House Foundation in enhancing after school programming locally. The project will operate in three Title 1 elementary schools in Roswell, serving over 200 students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, with the goal of building literacy proficiency, as well as helping with STEM activities, health and wellness programming.
AmeriCorps members will serve alongside site directors and staff to provide additional instruction and homework support to participating students, with an emphasis on literacy instruction. They may also help with measurement of student progress toward project goals, and will assist with family engagement and volunteer recruitment. Ideal candidates will be aspiring, active, or retired educators, counselors, social workers, and/or nonprofit or youth professionals who welcome the opportunity to serve the needs of economically disadvantaged children in the community. AmeriCorps members will also serve the larger community on National Days of Service.
AmeriCorps members participating in the City of Roswell AmeriCorps After School Project will serve Monday through Thursday from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, concurrent with the Fulton County Schools calendar for 2019-2020 and beginning October 1, 2019.
