Consultant, Research (Policy & Advocacy) (Maternity Leave Cover)

Location: New York City/Flex
Duration: 4 Months (Oct-Jan) with ramp up/downs for 2-3 weeks before and after leave cover
Format: Part-Time, 3 days per week, min 1 day per week in office (preference for 2 days)

Summary of the Position:

The Consultant will serve as a maternity leave cover and provide project management for the Women Deliver Research Work stream. The selected candidate will serve as a content specialist and will utilize data from partners and colleagues and best practices from the field. The Consultant will develop Women Deliver’s advocacy materials with a special focus on economic policy, women in leadership and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The Consultant’s focal will be the Managing Director, Policy & Advocacy and mentor the Associate, Policy & Advocacy and Senior Program Assistant, Research, Policy & Advocacy during this leave period.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitoring and helping to shape the evolving policy narratives and calls to action around special focus policy issues.
  • Leading the development of Women Deliver’s commissioned research with a primary focus on women in leadership and SRHR.
  • Working with partners (including organizations that focus on public performance auditing) to advance the gender data agenda and communicate the evidence.
  • Developing and socializing advocacy material around the investment case for gender equality.
  • Initiating conversations with partners on potential commissioned research in the run-up to Beijing+25, in line with organization and department priorities.
  • Maintaining ongoing relations with Women Deliver research partners, such as Equal Measures 2030.
  • Supporting Women Deliver’s President/CEO and the Managing Director of Policy and Advocacy on the advisory role to key decision makers.
  • Providing guidance to the Women Deliver Research team.

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • BA/BS required in related field such as public health, international relations, gender studies, political science or human rights; Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • 6-8 years of experience in an NGO, UN agency, or similar organization.
  • Expertise in economic policy and/or international development with an emphasis on girls and women required.
  • Experience with maternal health and SRHR preferred.
  • Data analysis and/or statistical modeling experience preferred.
  • Strong quantitative abilities – including experience executing and leading quantitative/qualitative assessments.
  • Experience translating dense research materials and technical content into material for broader audiences.
  • Experience with peer-reviewed journals and or/commissioned research in the science, health, economic and/or political space.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures on global health or international development advocacy campaigns, programs or initiatives. Developing country experience preferred.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong management and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistently delivering excellent-quality work.
  • Ability to design and implement creative, analytical approaches to improve programs and projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems.
