Associate, Policy & Advocacy (Deliver for Good)

Summary of Position:

As the world transitions from the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to a broader, more ambitious set of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Women Deliver seeks a Policy and Advocacy Associate who is energized by the challenge to seize the unique opportunities on the horizon.

This Associate would specifically work within the policy and advocacy team at Women Deliver and focus on the Deliver for Good campaign. Deliver for Good is a global campaign, initiated by Women Deliver and partners that applies a gender lens to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotes 12 critical investments in girls and women to power progress for all. The evidence-based advocacy campaign calls for enhanced policies, programming, and investments in girls and women. Deliver for Good highlights the ripple effects of investing in girls and women so decision makers understand the central role that gender equality plays in global development efforts.

The Associate will work with the Senior Manager and Senior Associate, Policy and Advocacy on the Deliver for Good Campaign. This work will include research, project management, grantee support, writing, advocating, and promoting policies which will ensure that Deliver for Good mobilizes multi-sector partners and allies to change the narrative around girls and women; and fuels concrete actions and SDG implementation at the global and country level.

Accountabilities:

  • Assist with implementing strategic plans for advocacy activities specific to the Deliver for Good Campaign including, but not limited to: partner relationships, thematic meetings, and other advocacy events around key calendar dates (e.g., UNGA week)
  • Provide support in producing a diverse range of advocacy and communications materials specific to Deliver for Good, including messaging documents, progress reports, presentations, research, meeting notes, updating policy briefs/campaign infographics and web and social media content
  • Coordinate campaign partnerships with UN entities, NGOs, private sector partners, nonprofits, foundations, and civil society
  • Continually update and monitor policy opportunities and developments via landscape assessments and media scans
  • Research and keep appraised of new evidence related to several of the 12 investment areas of the Deliver for Good Campaign
  • Liaise with communications colleagues on campaign tactics
  • Organize and attend meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events relevant to the campaign; coordinate logistics for events as needed
  • Work alongside the team to ensure the timely completion of deliverables related to the campaign’s work plan

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • BA/BS required
  • 2-4 years of experience in an NGO, UN agency, or similar organization
  • Expertise in and passion for gender equality, international maternal, sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, with an emphasis on girls and women
  • Experience planning events, including coordinating logistics and creating agendas
  • Experience writing or delivering talking points/materials for presentations/workshops
  • Experience reviewing grant applications and/or managing grantees
  • Solid research experience evaluating quantitative and qualitative data, with the ability to discern high quality data sources and assess project effectivenes
  • Professional experience or academic training in international development issues, particularly related to girls and women, economic empowerment, education, or climate change
  • Strong organization skills and a detailed-oriented mindset with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work independently while meeting tight deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, and adept in creating professional PowerPoint presentations
  • Working proficiency in French
  • Experience working with partners from diverse countries/cultures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, if needed
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
