THE OPPORTUNITY

San Francisco Community Health Center is seeking an Associate Director of Capacity Building to spearhead the agency’s HIV prevention technical assistance (TA) program in the Midwest, out of a new Chicago-based office.

ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER (SFCHC)

San Francisco Community Health Center (formerly known as API Wellness) is a federally qualified health center that provides culturally competent, high-quality medical care, health services, education and outreach. We transform lives by advancing health, wellness and equality. We work in solidarity with underserved communities—of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations and immigration statuses— toward justice and health equity.

Founded in 1987 as an all-volunteer, community-based response to the AIDS crisis among communities of color, we are an anchor-organization for San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, and also lead regional, statewide and national programming.

We believe that everyone deserves to be healthy and needs access to the highest quality health care.

ABOUT SFCHC’S REGIONAL HIV PREVENTION TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

San Francisco Community Health Center has over 25 years of history providing HIV-related capacity building assistance (CBA) services in the United States, Pacific Islands and US territories rooted in over three decades of providing HIV prevention programming in our local communities.

The organization’s new Regional HIV Prevention Technical Assistance Program, based out of Chicago, provides tailored support to CDC-funded health departments and community-based organizations (CBOs) in the Midwest in the areas of clinical HIV testing and prevention for persons with HIV. The program is part of a CDC-funded effort to achieve the nation’s HIV prevention goals by enabling the HIV prevention workforce to optimally plan, integrate, implement and sustain comprehensive programs and services.

SFCHC’s Regional HIV Prevention Technical Assistance Program in Chicago will be led by the Associate Director of Capacity Building, with support from the Director of Capacity Building and Organizational Learning in San Francisco.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director is responsible for opening SFCHC’s new Chicago-based, regional technical assistance office. The Associate Director will supervise a team of staff to design, develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate technical assistance activities, primarily for CDC-funded health departments and CBOs in the Midwest, as part of a five-year cooperative agreement. In addition, the Associate Director will work closely with 16 other CDC-funded capacity building assistance programs as part of a national Capacity Building Assistance Provider Network. The Associate Director will serve as a representative of the agency when convening with community partners and funders. In doing so, this role will protect and steward the integrity and reputation of San Francisco Community Health Center and its mission, vision, core values and culture.
