The position reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and is not only an integral part of the Development Team but also an integral part of Clarke’s teams in New York and Philadelphia and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Campus Directors, administration and teaching staffs. Approximately 80% of this position will focus on New York and 20% will focus on Philadelphia.

This is a full-time salaried position located in New York, NY, and offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. The position will be based in a home office and should be within reasonable proximity to Clarke’s New York location.  Attendance at events outside of traditional business hours, including evenings and weekends, are necessary on a regular basis.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Identify major gifts and planned giving prospects and involve the Chief Development Officer in developing the prospects employing a Moves Management strategy
  • Manage a portfolio of key donors and prospects:develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with prospects and donors through personal visits and communications, events and other initiatives, working toward successfully closed gift solicitations in the five and six figure range
  • Possess a working knowledge of planned giving techniques and facilitate conversations with donors to explore and execute planned gifts
  • Help oversee and drive cultivation and stewardship efforts by other Clarke staff and volunteers, providing support as needed and monitoring the progress of such efforts
  • Serve as Clarke’s primary liaison with major donors, foundations and corporate sponsors in New York and Philadelphia
  • Manage and oversee volunteers and volunteer committees, primarily the Leadership Councils in New York and Philadelphia, and develop volunteer activities, programs and recognition
  • Solicit, manage and expand corporate sponsorship opportunities in support of events including the Listening Walks in New York and Philadelphia.
  • Attract support for the school via Clarke’s Sponsor a Child program; manage gift solicitation and donor stewardship
  • Conduct research about prospects, donors, celebrities and potential VIPs and share research with staff and key volunteers
  • Use Raiser’s Edge to record and track data and actions about prospects, donors and volunteers
  • Maintain electronic and paper files as they relate to donors, prospects, projects, events, and committees
  • Initiate and coordinate visits and meetings with prospects, donors and corporate sponsors and include the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, Campus Director, Director of Foundation Relations and/or Trustees and other key volunteers as needed
  • Collaborate with and support the Director of Foundation Relations on foundation research, proposal and report writing and foundation visits including securing information from Campus/Program Directors and other staff as needed
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer and Chief Communications Officer in developing the strategies and messages for the Fall and Spring appeals and Giving Tuesday
  • Engage in community outreach by meeting with and speaking to local civic groups about Clarke and coordinating on-campus visits and events for community visitors
  • Attend networking and professional development events, such as those offered by the local chamber of commerce, like-oriented business associations and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
  • Serve as the project leader or assist with developing and implementing Clarke-wide fundraising plans and solicitation strategies
  • Work independently while also functioning as a contributing member of the regional Development Team and actively participate in regular meetings with the Development Team and Communications Department
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, attention to detail and will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within an organization that is experiencing rapid change and growth.  The individual exhibits:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with a variety of people and to collaborate with staff at all organizational levels and across departments and locations
  • Strong oral communication skills, including public speaking
  • Strong written communication skills and experience drafting solicitations and donor acknowledgements
  • Experience leading and managing volunteers and volunteer committees Experience developing and implementing fundraising plans and initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge NXT or another donor database
  • Five or more years of experience in fundraising with demonstrated results soliciting and securing major gifts
  • Commitment to professional growth and to the mission of the school
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
