We need development professionals who can work with our highly committed leadership to help to generate support for our critical work.

ASHRAE is currently in the middle of a capital campaign to raise funds for a new building. The development professional in the Development Manager role will play a key staff role in seeing this campaign to a successful completion.

Position Overview:

The Development Manager works with the Chief Development Officer to plan, implement and manage ASHRAE’s Development program, including low- and mid-range major gifts. Major gifts are defined in this organization as $10K+. The ideal candidate will have experience and success in project management, development operations (working with the database, IT, Accounting, etc.), volunteer engagement, general fundraising (preferably including mid-range gift development or higher), and development writing/editing. This role includes taking on special projects, as they come up, and working with the Chief Development Officer and key volunteer leaders to ensure the success of the overarching development goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in staffing the Development Committee.
  • Proactive and ongoing prospecting, relationship building and networking to build a portfolio of $10K+ gift prospects and strengthen the major gift pipeline.
  • Develop strategies to achieve personal and team goals.
  • Prepare written materials such as visit strategies/briefings, correspondence, solicitation/proposal and pledge documents, as well as collateral materials. 
  • Maintain strong and accurate records of activities, as directed by team protocol, using the appropriate database.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on progress and outcomes against agreed upon goals.
  • Adhere to professionalism and fundraising best practices as demonstrated by moves management industry standards and donor-centered methodology.
  • Handle other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five years minimum professional experience required in the development field.
  • Experience in working with volunteer leaders and staff leadership.
  • Ability to present information concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Results oriented with ability to focus on and meet deadlines and goals.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. 
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently on complex issues.
  • Ability to analyze data and information to drive strategic development of portfolio - includes the ability to research donor database and historic giving for major gifts potential.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to listen, observe and interact well with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Experience in developing and/or maintaining development reports is desired.
  • Demonstrated success in personal cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and closing of five-figure gifts or above.
  • Established time management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiarity with fundraising or other contact management software.
  • Professional appearance, initiative and integrity.
  • Must be a team player.

Some travel required.
