ANNOUNCEMENT FOR

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION

The Quality of Life Plus Program (QL+) is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated individual for filling the Executive Director Position.  QL+ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2009 and headquartered in McLean, VA.  The mission is “to foster and generate innovations that aid and improve the quality of life for those who have served our country.”  QL+ supports the community of wounded, injured and ill service members, veterans, first responders and other government entities (Federal, State and local) by having senior level engineering students at some of the nation’s leading universities provide innovative solutions that will enable these patriots to become more mobile and independent in their everyday lives. QL+ has a staff of five full time and four part-time positions, with operating locations in California, Colorado, Ohio and Virginia that serve as program and project managers for QL+ projects at 17 universities, and growing.

The Executive Director position is located at the headquarters office in McLean, Virginia and reports to the QL+ President and its Board of Directors.  The Executive Director is responsible for the management of day to day operations, to include but not limited to financial, human resources, communications and fundraising, as well as implementation of the strategic direction established by the President and Board of Directors. QL+ has a $1.0 million annual budget with virtually all of its revenue coming from donations, sponsorships and foundation grants.  Candidates must have a passion for education and for supporting military service members, veterans and first responders with disabilities.

Strategic Vision and Leadership

  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to staff, and ensure the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization; establish effective decision-making processes that will enable QL+ to achieve its short- and long-term goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with the President, Board of Directors and Advisory Council members to develop, refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff and priorities are aligned with the core mission
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the President and Board and ensure open and reliable communication about the measurement of financial and programmatic performance against stated milestones and goals
  • Speak persuasively for and represent QL+ in meetings and at events around the country to enhance the public image and reputation, and strengthen the QL+ brand while engaging audiences and potential donors in its mission
  • Ensure that the flow of funds permits QL+ to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential
  • Oversee comprehensive marketing, branding, events, and development strategies with major donors, foundations, and corporations
  • Engage in multiple fundraising activities, to include grant writing, events, and solicitation of sponsors and donors.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a BS with either engineering or medical focus
  • At least 5 years of prior nonprofit experience
  • Significant fundraising, marketing and fiscal management experience
  • Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to travel to meet with donors, potential investors, volunteers, and to attend key events and meetings
  • Prior military, first responder or related service
