The Washington Development Director collaborates with the Chief Advancement Officer, Leadership Boards and Governing Board Members. This position cultivates high level donors in the form of grants development, community outreach, marketing and online marketing, media development, and other activities.

  • Develop an active understanding of Seneca Family of Agencies’ history, mission statement, and philosophy, as well as a working knowledge of Seneca’s programs and finances
  • Create a Development Plan for Seneca Washington
  • Manage Washington Leadership Board stewardship, recruitment, and engagement
  • Lead the Washington Development team in creating and enhancing positive community relationships and financial support
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the members of the executive management team and the Leadership Board on development and strategic engagement
  • Establish programs and strategies to address immediate and long term fundraising goals
  • Identify and research donor prospects to develop relationships that will increase individual, corporate, and foundation funding
  • Collaborate with Seneca’s DaSE department to create and execute an annual giving campaign in Washington
  • Execute fundraising plans, outreach to prospective donors, and maintain strong relationships with current donors
  • Provide leadership for and management of board and volunteer committees
  • Improve development infrastructure to generate new revenue sources including use of fundraising software, donor information, communications, budgeting, business plan development, staff training and volunteer leadership
  • Contribute to the development of materials and publications, such as the annual report and online marketing, that assist in stewardship and raising funds for Seneca Washington
  • Provide staff leadership in development, planning, and implementation of special events designed to raise funds
  • Act as agency liaison to local fundraising auxiliaries and guild chapters and provide presentations on behalf of Seneca Family of Agencies


  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years development experience
  • Certified Fundraising Executive designation a plus
  • Excellent computer skills including solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and Raiser’s Edge
  • Demonstrated experience in successful fundraising, board development, major gift plans, and cultivation of individual, corporate, and foundation donor relationships
  • Supervisory and managerial experience
  • Expertise in collaborating with board members, donors and community leaders
  • Valid Washington driver's license and insurability through Seneca's automobile policy
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints and other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
