Position Summary

The Grants Manager is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to corporations, foundations and other grant-making entities (i.e.: government), and will persuasively communicate Dr. Phillip’s Center's mission/vision and programs to potential funders. Reporting to the Development Director, the Grants Manager will assemble and submit grant requests, establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with funding contacts, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Developing and writing grant proposals to corporations, foundations and other grant-making entities, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission/vision and programs to potential funders;
  • Meeting and exceeding the expectations of a minimum 100 grant solicitations annually;
  • Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations;
  • Establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with donor contacts and program officers;
  • Ensuring prompt acknowledgement of grants awarded;
  • Maintaining calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports. Working with the Dr. Phillips Center’s staff/leadership in selecting, prioritizing, and scheduling grants to be pursued;
  • Conducting prospect research;
  • Effectively prioritizing project workload in order to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals;
  • Providing writing support for major donor and individual contribution letters, campaign appeal letters, and acknowledgements;
  • Managing all post-award grants management and stewardship, including working with departments across the organization to ensure compliance / complete all grant fulfillment program and events development, public recognition for funders, and the timely acknowledgment of and reporting on grants;
  • Using the organization’s database (Tessitura) for managing and tracking the grants cycle and solicitation calendar, the implementation of all grant contracts, and the success of all campaigns;
  • Working with the corresponding departments and Finance, as necessary, to develop meaningful project budgets for grant submissions;
  • Develop and manage a college intern grant researcher, providing training and supervision of each intern that participates;
  • Follow, support and help develop departmental policies and procedures with the Campaign Manager and Development Director. 
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures.  Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values 
  • Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners;
  • Able to remain calm under pressure.  Works effectively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and providing problem-solving abilities.  Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards at all times;
  • Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience;
  • Experience with writing a large number of grants per year with the ability to solicit a minimum of 100 annually;
  • Experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information;
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and budgets as they relate to proposals and grants;
  • Ability to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner;
  • Ability to seek, and synthesize information, and to communicate in a compelling and succinct manner;
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills;
  • High level of computer literacy, including familiarity with the Tessitura database and the Foundation Center search engine;
  • Ability to be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, while meeting deadlines;
  • Entrepreneurial and creative approach to fundraising;
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
