JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Regional Resource Navigator

Location: Within two RESA (Regional Educational Service Agency) districts in Southwest Georgia:

  1. Chattahoochee/Flint RESA – includes Chattahoochee, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Macon, Marion, Muscogee, Randolph, Quitman, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, and Webster Counties
  2. Southwest Georgia RESA – includes Baker, Calhoun, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, and Worth Counties

Reports to: Affiliate Manager

Status: Full or Part-time, Evenings and Weekend work required

Salary: $12.00 - $13.40/hour (Mileage reimbursement provided)

Start Date: Immediately

Job Summary:

NAMI Georgia, the state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is launching the NAMI In Your Neighborhood initiative to work with 18 turnaround eligible schools in southwest Georgia to identify mental health needs of students and caregivers of students at these schools. The Regional Resource Navigator will plan, direct, and coordinate mental health education presentations and mental health support groups and classes for caregivers of students at these schools with mental health needs. The Navigator will also create a Resource Guide for mental health and other needs in the district and will establish a Resource Helpline to aid individuals in accessing these resources. Finally, the Navigator will work with the NAMI Georgia office to establish and grow a local NAMI affiliate within the district.  

This position is funded for two years through a Community Partnership Grant with the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate the scheduling and execution of mental health support groups for families and peers, trainings, presentations, and other educational activities
  • Host resource tables at events held at the schools in the district on the list of the Georgia Chief Turnaround Office
  • Attend Health/Community Fair events in the region to market NAMI services
  • Coordinate with local RESA and assigned schools to develop training schedules to present nine of NAMI’s Ending the Silence presentation on mental health awareness (designed for teenagers and their families) and to host four of NAMI’s Basics classes (overviews on mental health conditions and positive coping skills for parents of children with a mental health need)
  • Assist in the development of a new NAMI affiliate in the district
  • Schedule support groups for parents and caregivers of students with mental health needs
  • Market NAMI classes and affiliate meetings
  • Develop and disseminate a mental health Resource Guide for counties in the district
  • Establish a Mental Health Resource Help Line for the district and ensure that it is appropriately monitored
  • Ensure that education presentations and Resource Help Line reach a minimum of 800 individuals
  • Assist with raising awareness of mental health
  • Comply with NAMI program policies and procedures
  • Oversee maintenance of official records, policies and documents
  • Monitor state, county, and local issues that may affect community crisis services
  • Respond to communications and requests in a timely manner
  • Other duties as required

  • Able to work evenings and weekends

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or compensatory experience
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS), Certified Peer Specialist-Youth (CPS-Y), or Certified Peer Specialist-Parent (CPS-P) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to pass a background check
